Vacation in Val Senales / Schnalstal

The Val Senales is probably the best developed tourist region in the Vinschgau. However, before reaching this sunny high alpine valley on the south side of the main Alpine ridge, you have to pass by Reinhold Messner's castle Juval through a narrow gorge. The road is very winding and leads through several tunnels. But then you are in one of the most beautiful holiday regions in South Tyrol, right in the Ötztal Alps. The villages Katharinenberg, Pfossental, Karthaus, Unser Frau and Vernagt are located at an altitude of about 1,250 to 1,700m, the highest village, Kurzras, even at over 2,000m.

Due to the seclusion of the valley, much original culture and tradition has been preserved here. The many, partly centuries-old farms, the pilgrimage church "Unser Frau" and the former Carthusian monastery Allerengelsberg are unique.

The Val Senales became famous in 1991 at the latest, when the "Ötzi" was found here in the ice of the Schnalstal glacier. Anyone interested in the "Iceman" and his life 5,300 years ago should definitely visit the ArcheoPark Val Senales, an archaeological active museum with an open-air area and a great attraction for young and old!

For active holidaymakers, there are plenty of activities in the Val Senales. The Texel Group Nature Park, the Salurn Ridge, and the Ötztal Alps offer mountain sports enthusiasts everything their hearts desire: hiking, climbing, glacier tours, mountain biking, Nordic walking, as well as a high ropes course, rafting, canoeing and kayaking, and the Olympic indoor pool with a spacious wellness area... It's impossible to get bored on vacation here.

You can also go skiing and snowboarding here not only in winter, as the ski area in the back of the Val Senales extends up to over 3,200m and is South Tyrol's only year-round ski area. In addition to 35km of ski slopes, there is also a snow park and wonderful cross-country ski trails. Numerous international ski and cross-country teams use the excellent conditions here for their training. The Val Senales is also fantastic for ski touring, winter hiking, and snowshoeing. Holiday fun is promised by the toboggan run or new trend sports such as snow rafting.

In the holiday paradise Val Senales, you will easily find a suitable hotel for your vacation. From family hotels to wellness hotels, from fine gourmet hotels to chic design hotels: the range of accommodations is large and of the highest standard. Elegant ambience, wellness and spa areas ensure your well-being, first-class service and warm hospitality make you forget everyday life.
