Holiday in Silandro

Silandro / Schlanders is the main town of the Vinschgau. It is located at around 700m above sea level and is surrounded by orchards. Since the 1960s, practically all of the agriculturally usable land has been dedicated to fruit growing and, occasionally, wine cultivation. A particularly attractive time to visit is in spring, when the valley seems to be a sea of pink and white blossoms, and in autumn during the apple harvest.

Although Silandro has developed into the shopping and service center of the Vinschgau today – with a hospital, kindergartens, and several high schools – it is still strongly influenced by rural traditions. Church festivals and old customs, such as the Krampus procession on December 5th, the "Tuifltog," are maintained and continued.

The landmark of Silandro is the tower of the parish church Maria Himmelfahrt, at 97 meters the highest church tower in Tyrol. Also worth seeing are the town hall, the Widum Silandro, Schloss Schlandersberg, the Capuchin monastery, the church of St. Aegidius with frescoes from the 13th century, the numerous manor houses, and the National Park House Avimundus. The town center is a pedestrian zone and with its charming shops, cafes, and restaurants it has a somewhat urban flair. Tourism discovered Silandro around the middle of the last century.

The hotel industry is consistently of a high standard, and many wellness and culinary offers make your vacation an experience. You will find plenty of accommodation options for your stay on site, such as hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts, or apartments.

The central location in the Vinschgau with the foothills of the Ötztal Alps to the north and the Ortler group with the Stelvio National Park to the south make Silandro and its surroundings an ideal holiday destination.

The possibilities for various sports activities are almost unlimited. In summer, the nearby mountains are a paradise for hiking, mountaineering, climbing, and mountain biking. It is also wonderful to bike in the valley, as the excellently developed cycle path network makes it possible to explore many sights from Merano up to Lake Reschen by bike. Of course, Silandro is also ideal for Nordic walking, in line with the wellness trend. And a modern sports facility offers a swimming pool, tennis courts, mini golf, gym, and much more.

A trip to the "Marble Village" of Laas, just a few kilometers to the west, is definitely worth it. It is an idyllic place characterized by the "White Gold" of marble. During the marble tours, you can discover the secrets of marble mining and processing. Also highly interesting is the Alpine Road of Romanesque art, which connects the many Romanesque art treasures in the Vinschgau and in Graubünden.

In winter, the extensive ski area of the Ortler Skiarena offers 300 wonderful kilometers of slopes for enjoyable skiing and snowboarding. Snow reliability is guaranteed for your ski vacation. There are also 200km of cross-country ski trails, as well as toboggan runs, ice skating opportunities, and romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides. A special highlight are the winter and snowshoe hikes on the Vinschgau Sonnenberg. Whether it's a winter or summer vacation: In Silandro, you will feel comfortable and enjoy your holiday!
