Vacation in St. Anton am Arlberg

This holiday destination has a particularly sporty past. In 2001, the Alpine Ski World Championship took place here, where Austria ultimately led the medal table. The ski area with the championship slopes naturally attracts skiers of all ages. A total of 85 lifts and cable cars will take you around the area, providing access to almost 300 kilometers of groomed slopes as well as nearly 200 kilometers of natural and secured powder slopes. The offer is rounded off with 10 ski touring routes and a more than 4-kilometer-long toboggan run, which is sometimes bathed in bright light at night.

In a place with such a rich skiing history, a ski museum is a must. In St. Anton, you will find this, combined with a local history museum. After all, skiing is also part of the local tradition.

The air is pure

But even in summer, St. Anton is more than worth a visit. The high-altitude health resort impresses with its pure atmosphere, and with such perfect conditions, outdoor sports are even more enjoyable. Ride a mountain bike over rough terrain, tackle the Kaunertal Glacier Tour or the Silvretta Round with a racing bike, or march towards optimal fitness with the popular trend sport of Nordic Walking.
You can also improve your handicap here – while golfing at the Arlberg, with an impressive natural backdrop.

Almost 100 kilometers of marked hiking trails invite you to stroll in the great outdoors. With the Verwallsee or the Rosanna River, you have good destinations where trout frolic. Fishermen, get your fishing rods ready!

And while we're on the subject of water: Canyoning, rafting, kayaking, and tubing are also popular activities in the waters of St. Anton. And if the weather doesn't cooperate, there's also the option to seek refuge under a protective roof: The local indoor pool has its own wellness center, a whirlpool, a waterfall, and a children's pool with a slide and bubble jets.

Climbing in winter

A special challenge for climbers awaits off the slopes. The Winter Via Ferrata Roßfallscharte in the Rendl area is considered one of the most beautiful of its kind in all of Austria by connoisseurs. It covers 850 meters and is continuously equipped with steel cables. The approach is via the mountain station at the Riffelscharte (2,645m). Good to very good physical condition and knowledge of avalanche safety are absolutely necessary.

Segways, llamas and a sports center that plays almost all the pieces

The newcomers in the leisure business are the Segway tours around the Arlberg and the llama trekking. Explore the Arlberg on the back of a llama, which is known for being a calm animal and allows you to escape the hectic everyday life. The tours can be booked for a few hours or for a whole day, as you like.

In the multifunctional sports center "arl.rock" on almost 1,000 square meters in St. Anton, you will find a lot that supports you on the way to the best health. Indoor and outdoor climbing facilities come together as the perfect place for bouldering and ice climbing. In addition, classic sports such as tennis, volleyball, soccer, bowling, and squash also find their place.

And for those who want to turn night into day, this is also the right place: St. Anton is in good company when it comes to nightlife: Numerous disco clubs, pubs, and bars await the night owls along the main street and promise one thing – and often that: fun, fun, fun.

Behavior in the High Mountains

High up, surrounded by a breathtaking mountain panorama, different rules apply than down in the valley. The weather turns faster, a planned tour sometimes requires more effort than expected, and a small misstep can sometimes necessitate an early return.

St. Anton am Arlberg is generally considered the cradle of Alpine skiing. Here, the ski pioneers, foremost among them the legendary Hannes Schneider, developed the technique of Alpine skiing, which is still essentially valid today, from the Scandinavian Telemark style at the beginning of the 20th century.
