Vacation in Nauders

In a high valley above the Inntal lies this municipality at an altitude of 1,300 meters, which is particularly well known to winter sports enthusiasts. More than 100 kilometers of ski slopes, 90 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, as well as winter hiking trails that exceed the 100-kilometer mark in total, and 70 kilometers of snowshoe hiking routes speak for themselves. And for Nauders.

A winter program that is second to none

The Nauders ski area on the Bergkastel not only impresses with its extensive, natural slopes, but also offers adventurous mogul runs and a fun park with a halfpipe for snowboarders and freestylers. In addition to a gondola lift, five chairlifts and numerous drag lifts ensure that visitors can comfortably reach the mountain. The location on the Reschen Pass, a mountain pass that crosses the main Alpine ridge, speaks for good snow coverage. Away from the ski slopes, Nauders offers five toboggan runs, the longest of which is over 8 kilometers. Where there is snow, ice is not far away. And so you can also demonstrate your skills in ice skating or curling.

But in summer, the holiday resort also has its charms. With 300 kilometers of hiking trails, 700 kilometers of cycling and mountain biking routes, and nearly 100 kilometers of running routes, there are plenty of options available.

A special hiking destination is the Dreiländergrenzstein, a mountain that offers a truly boundless experience - because this is where Austria, Italy, and Switzerland meet.

Lake kinship

Idyllic lakes also belong to the landscape of Nauders. To the southwest, for example, you will find the Schwarzer See, which is protected due to its rich fauna and flora. In addition to the magnificent water lilies, it is especially rare plants such as the rusty-leaved alpenrose, the woolly grass, or the northern bedstraw that deserve your attention. The Grünsee, on the other hand, offers a fishing experience in the midst of a quaint forest with carp, pike, and tench. Not far from Nauders is the Reschensee with its famous church tower protruding from the water. Here, water sports enthusiasts gather for kitesurfing, sailing, and swimming.

There is also plenty of watery fun in the Alpine water adventure world "Nauderix Goldwasser" on the Bergkastel. Children can learn how to pan for gold and how mills work here. In addition, they can activate a fire pump, wade through small waterfalls, or have fun in the low-rope garden or in the giant sandbox.

But adults who enjoy climbing should not feel left out - across from the Nauders fortress, a climbing garden awaits to be conquered by you. By the way, the fortress, built into the rocks, is one of the best-preserved defense systems from that time. Today it houses a military museum.

The medieval Naudersberg castle also exudes the charm of a bygone era. Although it is privately owned, guests are always welcome here. The castle restaurant speaks for itself, as does the farm museum or the numerous events that take place here time and time again. There are also rooms available for overnight stays. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to encounter the castle ghost?

But if you prefer to stay more centrally located: Here, they also know how to turn night into day. Numerous bars and pubs ensure that night owls also get their money's worth and prove that Nauders - as quiet as it may sometimes be - never sleeps.

Behavior in the High Mountains

High up, surrounded by a breathtaking mountain panorama, different rules apply than down in the valley. The weather turns faster, a planned tour sometimes requires more effort than expected, and a small misstep can sometimes necessitate an early return.
