Vacation in Landeck

Surrounded by mountains, the district town is located in a valley basin in the Inntal. The landmark of the town is already visible from afar: to the south of the city, majestic Castle Landeck perches on a rocky outcrop. The former castle now houses a local heritage museum that focuses on the regional heritage of the area. To keep the children entertained, Castle Landeck offers a special program for the little ones. In the "Children's Tower" or during a treasure hunt throughout the castle, the hearts of the little adventurers beat faster.

In addition to Castle Landeck, there are also the castles of Schrofenstein and Kronburg, which make up the triumvirate watching over the city. Only the 12-meter-high keep remains of Schrofenstein, which is difficult to access and located on a rocky promontory. And finally, on a steep rocky outcrop between Zams and Schönwies, you will find the remains of Kronburg, a former fortress.

An idyllic natural jewel with numerous animals

But in addition to the castles, Landeck is especially known for a natural jewel - the Kaunergrat Nature Park, which extends to the gates of Landeck. It is a particularly valuable nature that extends over an area of almost 60,000 hectares and includes all altitude levels of the Alps. No less than 84 peaks over three thousand meters high rise impressively here. More than 1,000 species of butterflies, the largest ibex colony in Austria, mouflon, chamois, marmots, red deer, roe deer, and golden eagles make up the animal richness of the nature park and at the same time show how intact the ecosystem is. In addition to rare moor areas, there is also the historic sacrificial site that attracts visitors here. Researchers believe that animals and cult objects were once sacrificed to the gods here.

For hikers, the Kaunergrat Nature Park offers six different themed trails, such as the Moor Nature Trail or the Wildlife Adventure Trail. A hike through the nature park also takes you past managed alpine pastures that practice environmentally friendly agriculture. And you can taste it too. Let the aroma of fresh alpine cheese from the Kaunergrat melt on your tongue - from guaranteed organic farming. And the nature park Kaunergrat can also offer a special attraction for the little visitors: an adventure playground modeled after a Gallic village. They can really let off steam here, following in the footsteps of Asterix.

Up the mountain!

Between Zams and Landeck is the valley station of the Venet mountain railways, from where a panoramic gondola takes you 1,400 meters up, until you can enjoy the unique mountain panorama at over 2,000 meters above sea level. Numerous hiking trails start here, making the area a summer hot spot. At the same time, paragliding and hang gliding are also very popular here, because the mountain offers the best conditions for them due to its thermals and magnificent natural scenery.

But Venet promises endless fun especially in winter. The Venet ski area combines Landeck with Zams and Fliess and offers not only 25 kilometers of wonderfully groomed slopes, but also a Panorama Lifestyle Park. Here, riders can practice their spectacular jumps. A huge air cushion ensures a soft landing, and the sound system delivers the hottest beats. In addition, there are opportunities to go on a winter hike or to approach the valley with a sled. However, for those who want more adventure, they can hire a certified ski guide and demonstrate their skills in heli-skiing, on a ski safari, or on a freeride.
