Vacation in Imst in Tyrol

In the beautiful Upper Inn Valley on the edge of the Lechtal Alps lies the holiday region of Imst. The town is famous far beyond the national borders as the birthplace of a charitable project: the world's first SOS Children's Village was founded here in the post-war period. So we are dealing with an ideal area for children, and that's why Imst is always a suitable choice for family vacations.

Impressive natural forces

A good starting point is the Rosengartenschlucht, rich in animals, flowers, and rocks. Just a short walk from the city center, the idyllic biotope begins in the blue grotto, marked by the Schinderbach.

The Innschlucht, on the other hand, can boast bizarre rock formations - earth pyramids, which are also called "Lahntürme" here and demonstrate in what artistic way rock can weather when nature is allowed to take the lead.

Rafting enthusiasts will lose their hearts to the Imst Gorge, and the pulse of canyoning fans will also quicken not only due to physical exertion.

Finally, along the Milser Au, the last major floodplain forest area in the Upper Inn Valley stretches. In addition to untouched spots of nature, there is also an ecologically designed leisure facility with attractions for young and old - the "Hitte-Hatte-Au". Here you can find children's playgrounds, a labyrinth, a trampoline, a treehouse, a petting zoo, and a Kneipp facility, among other things.

But what would Tyrol be without its mountains? Climbing is, of course, something like a national sport here, and that's why everyone from families to top athletes comes here to train. In the Imst climbing hall, they can even get a taste of international flair, as European championships and World Cups also take place here. Climbing in nature is even more beautiful - for example on the Maldonkopf, where the Imst via ferrata is located. The Maldonkopf is now one of the most frequently climbed peaks in the region. The level here is high: the partly vertical walls are only recommended for experienced climbers. However, beginners are recommended to try the waterfall via ferrata near the Muttekopfhütte.

For the thrill of speed

Those unafraid of heights who are looking for action will be excited about the "Alpine Coaster" in Hoch-Imst. The longest alpine roller coaster in the world leads over 3.5 kilometers through steep curves, waves, and jumps and is incredibly fun. The highest point is 6 meters above the ground.

Bike action also starts in Imst. Numerous long-distance cycle paths - such as the Via Claudia Augusta or the Inn Cycle Path - run through Imst. Mountain bikers find their terrain on the Untermarkter Alm, while the Kühtairunde for road bikes starts in Imst and leads over more than 100 kilometers to the Gurgltal.

And when the bikes are put away for the winter, snow fun reigns in the region: Then a free ski bus takes visitors to the neighboring villages, where the Imst mountain railways run their rounds. Winter hiking and tobogganing - even at night - give the snow magic another facet. And with cross-country skiing and curling, the winter program is finally complete.

However, the charming Imst city center with its Gothic and Baroque houses is also enchanting. The "Museum im Ballhaus" documents the history and cultural change of the city with art and everyday objects.

On the one hand a cultural place, on the other hand also a shopping city, Imst shows itself to the visitor from its diverse side. As diverse as the 40 - partly historical - drinking fountains in public spaces, which have also earned the city the secret name "Brunnenstadt" (Fountain City).
