Runners and Nordic walkers will find perfect conditions here for achieving their dream figure. And cyclists won't want to leave the region so quickly either. After all, the Ötztal offers 880 kilometers of signposted cycling routes, covering all levels of difficulty from easy to challenging. Without effort, you can reach the Piburger See, one of the warmest lakes in Tyrol, which also invites you to swim. The Bärental presents a challenge for more experienced cyclists.
Some cycling routes even lead up to 3,000 meters in altitude. The "Ötztal Trail" starts in Haiming-Ochsengarten and leads 80 kilometers to the eternal ice of the glaciers.
Holiday in Haiming
Water action on the Ötztaler Ache
Thanks to the Ötztaler Ache - a tributary of the Inn - Haiming is also a fixed point for water sports enthusiasts. Rafting and kayaking are possible here, as well as the adventurous sport of canyoning - a sport that combines climbing, abseiling, and swimming, while always keeping the focus on nature.
For those who want to go higher, they can indulge in their preference for paragliding or take a detour to the Haiming climbing garden. There, 10 different routes await alpinists - from beginners to advanced. Due to its orientation to the southeast, the climbing garden can also be climbed in winter.
Regional delights and treats
For a more leisurely experience, there is the Apple Road. The pleasure route passes by 60,000 trees that provide shade and fruit along the road. The guided hike includes a visit to the apple orchards and the apple storage facility. Of course, the vitamin-rich treasures of the region can also be tasted on site - in their original form or as juices and brandies.
Another equally interesting hiking tip is the "Jakobsweg", which leads from Haiming via Oetz and Sautens to Roppen. Along the way, you also hike along the Ötztaler Ache and eventually reach the aforementioned Piburger See.
With the arrival of autumn, the Haiming market days are approaching, traditionally celebrated in October. Here, products from the region are tasted and sold: fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, sausage, honey, jams, wine, and brandies - all fresh and directly from the producer. Don't miss the regionally typical "Ziachkiachln" on this occasion!
And as the year draws to a close and winter bestows the region with its white splendor, skiers and cross-country skiers also get their money's worth. The Ochsengarten district offers access to the Hochoetz ski area, and the neighboring Kühtai promises unforgettable days in the snow.
By the way, Ochsengarten is one of the oldest high-alpine permanent settlements in Tyrol and as such offers a very special flair for those seeking relaxation.
