Vacation in the Lechtal

The winter ski resorts of Lech and Zürs are two very prominent representatives of the region. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the Lech Valley has much more to offer. Away from the winter sports resorts where the rich and famous like to spend their holidays, there stretches an untouched and wonderful natural landscape.

Like no other, the Lech river shapes the appearance of the valley. The "wild" river winds its way for a whopping 264km from Vorarlberg through Tyrol to southern Bavaria. It impresses above all with its originality. Here, humans have truly let nature take its course. There are no artificial buildings or structures that push the river in one direction or another. The Lech determines its own course.

Nature Reserve

The Lech Valley is bordered by two impressive mountain ranges, the Allgäu Alps and the Lechtal Alps. Amidst the rugged scenery, there stretches an untouched nature reserve, which could not have been planned more beautifully. The "Tiroler Lech" Nature Park is truly unique in the alpine region.

In this natural environment, you can experience nature and its diversity up close. Whether individually on hikes or on one of the professional guided tours through the nature reserve - there is always something to discover here. Enthusiasts can embark on a botanical trail or climb an 18-meter observation tower. More than 150 different bird species have settled in the nature park, including rare water and marsh birds.

Even those seeking relaxation should always keep their eyes and ears open, because in the nature park there are many information and advice points where the peculiarities of nature are explained simply and understandably.

Hiking Pleasure

Those who enjoy being in the great outdoors will get their money's worth around the wild Lech. Countless hiking trails in the region are just waiting to be conquered. The level of difficulty varies, and many routes can also be covered with a rugged stroller.

Special highlight: a hike over the Holzgau Suspension Bridge. At almost 200 meters, it is the longest walkable suspension bridge in Austria. You should be a little free from vertigo when crossing the hanging bridge structure, as it leads over a gorge - and that at a height of 110 meters. The Höhenbach Waterfall, which is nearby, provides a little cooling off after the exciting bridge hike. Adventure is well taken care of in the Lechtal region anyway. The wild river landscape and the many waterfalls provide a perfect setting for the practice of numerous exciting sports such as rafting or canyoning.

Tip: the best way to end a varied day in the Lechtal is also in the great outdoors. Along the Lech, there are six barbecue areas available, each equipped with a fire pit, a table, and benches, inviting you to linger and enjoy a cozy barbecue.

Hölltalschlucht

Hölltal? The name may initially be misleading, as it certainly does not take you into the devil‘s realm. Quite the contrary – a hiking trail leads you right into the silence, a peaceful place in nature, where only the occasional sound of trees, water, or animals can be heard.
