Vacation in Reutte

The tranquil market town of Reutte has only 5900 inhabitants, yet it is the main town in the district. This holiday destination is located in the Reutte Basin, nestled in a magnificent mountain landscape. Powerful mountain ranges dominate in all directions: the Tannheimer Mountains in the west with the famous Hahnenkamm (1983m), the Tauern in the southeast, the Thaneller Alps in the south, and the Säugling in the north. Therefore, the surrounding area of the town is recommended as a perfect winter sports area. The ski region around the Hahnenkamm is only 3km from Reutte. Here, both beginners and families as well as experienced skiers will find numerous slopes of varying difficulty. Cross-country skiing fans will also get their money's worth here. In the Lechtal, a well-developed network of trails extends over about 120km, which even has the Tyrolean cross-country skiing quality seal.

Those who want to enjoy the quiet side of winter can plan long walks on the numerous cleared hiking trails in the region. The paths lead past dreamy lakes, snow-covered fields, and cozy guesthouses. However, Reutte not only shows its most beautiful side in winter, but also in summer, nature and culture are practically right outside the front door.

Experience pure nature

Especially in the warm season, you want to spend as many hours as possible in the great outdoors. Therefore, the region offers numerous leisure activities to ensure that boredom is guaranteed not to arise. Whether climbing, playing tennis, hiking, or simply lying by the lake and letting your soul dangle – here, everything is possible.

Above all, the hiking trails in the region are a special feature. Interested holidaymakers can "hike" culture and history, so to speak. A hike to the Schaufestung Schloßkopf, for example, is a reminder of times past. While parents can learn about the construction of the fortress or simply enjoy the view on the panorama platform, the little ones can enjoy an adventurous treasure hunt. And before you know it, you find yourself in the midst of the world of castles Ehrenwald. The Schaufestung Schloßkopf is only a part of the old fortress. Within the thick stone walls, there is also the Ehrenberger Klause, which played an important key role on the "North-South" trade route at that time.

Once a year, the Ehrenwald Castle comes to life, namely when "Ehrenberg - The Time Travel," the largest knight's spectacle in Europe, takes place on the castle grounds. Then the whole area transforms into a medieval village. Jugglers, musicians, craftsmen, and strong knights transport visitors to another time.

In search of meaning

In Reutte, one can not only get to know the culture of the Middle Ages better but also oneself. The themed hiking trail "Path of Virtue" is intended to help those seeking meaning to find themselves. The trail begins at the ruins of Ehrenberg and leads past small lakes, ruins, and chapels back to the starting point. These "places of power" are intended to encourage reflection and letting go of negative thoughts. Sometimes the path to self-discovery also leads through contact with nature. What it feels like to really feel the ground beneath you again, you can experience on the alpine barefoot hiking trail at Hahnenkamm. Different stations with wood, straw, water, sand, and stone ensure a hike of a special kind.

Hölltalschlucht

Hölltal? The name may initially be misleading, as it certainly does not take you into the devil‘s realm. Quite the contrary – a hiking trail leads you right into the silence, a peaceful place in nature, where only the occasional sound of trees, water, or animals can be heard.

Tyrol is rich in crafts and craftsmanship. But while today access to crafts and to education and apprenticeship is relatively easy and open to everyone, for centuries it was regulated by a strict guild system.
