Vacation in the Tannheimer Valley

The Tannheim Valley, located at an altitude of about 1100 meters, impressively demonstrates the wonders that nature can create. The valley gently winds its way along the Tannheim Mountains, which are already part of the Allgäu Alps. The "Kellenspitze" (2238m) and "Gimpel" (2176m), the two highest peaks of the mountain range, proudly overlook the Tannheim Valley. Here, one can still experience nature in its most original form. The alpine backdrop creates ideal conditions for all kinds of leisure and sports activities. A healthy side effect: the clean mountain air is beneficial and has a positive effect on circulation and well-being.

Those planning a stay in the Tannheim Valley don't really need to do anything. Here, you can simply go out and take in the beauty of nature. Lush green meadows, shady forests, clear mountain lakes, and rugged peaks - all are just waiting to be discovered. The diversity of species is breathtaking: so far, about 1200 different plants have been counted, and the number continues to grow year by year.

Once you have discovered how the beautiful flowers make their way through stone and rubble, you will be completely thrilled. Around the cozy villages of Nesselwängle-Haller, Tannheim, Schattwald, Jungholz, Grän-Haldensee, and Zöblen, nature, animals, and humans unfold in a special way.

On the way up

The Tannheim Valley has also become a hidden gem for amateur and professional climbers. Those who want to pursue this challenging sport will find perfect conditions here. In particular, the limestone cliffs of the Tannheim Mountains have captivated diligent climbing fans. 3 secured climbing routes are available to the athletes.

For example, the "Südsporn" leads to the Kellenspitze and, with a length of 750 meters and a difficulty level of D, is only suitable for trained and experienced climbers. Those who conquer the slightly easier Friedberger Via Ferrata, although not as long, will be rewarded at the end with a magnificent view of the Bavarian Alpine foothills. For those who still need some practice, there is also a 130m2 indoor climbing wall available directly in Tannheim. Courage and skill are also required in the Tannheim Valley climbing forest. Free climbers as well as families can try their luck on 7 courses and numerous natural rock blocks.

Paradise for hiking enthusiasts

The Tannheim Valley is clearly a place for sports, and since a healthy body always requires a healthy mind, something special has been created in the active mountain region: a total of 5 themed hiking trails have been created to ensure that fun and variety are not neglected.

On the "9er Erlebnisweg" (9 Adventure Trail), you can learn about the flora and fauna of the area, while on the "Außerferner Jakobsweg" (Außerfern Way of St. James), which runs through the valley, you can get a taste of pilgrimage. The so-called "Schmugglersteig" (Smuggler's Trail) from Wannenjoch to Iseler is popular with young and old alike. Originally, this path was frequented mainly by smugglers - you can still experience this part of history in a playful way today. You can take on the role of a "smuggler" or "border guard," and if you successfully complete your task, you will receive a "smuggler's pass" as a souvenir.
