On a wonderfully sunny slope between 1100 and 1450 meters above sea level lies the municipality of Jerzens. Even though it is directly connected to the Hochzeiger ski area, there is no trace of mass tourism. About 1015 inhabitants live in the main town of Jerzens and the associated settlements, which are generously spread out over the entire municipal area. The hamlets of Liss and Kaitanger, for example, are already located at 1450 meters above sea level. Those who want to spend their holidays here are best off starting without a specific plan. There is a lot to discover on leisurely walks through the town area; children can play literally right outside the door and really let off steam on the numerous alpine and meadow areas.
In the summer months, there is a lot going on in Jerzens. Every year in August, the "Festival on the Mountain" is held. Everyone meets at the Hochzeiger middle station and then dances, eats, and laughs. While adults savor the culinary specialties of the region, children have fun in the kids' club or on the "jumping and climbing castle". Since Jerzens has been a popular holiday destination for "summer vacationers" for years, the Radio Tirol Summer Vacation event also regularly makes a stop here.
Those who want to experience tradition and customs up close should not miss the Jerzner Almabtrieb in September. In late summer, when the temperatures are really pleasant, the farmers bring their livestock back from the alpine pastures to the valley. And it's celebrated properly. Cows, sheep, and horses parade through the town - the spectacle is accompanied by folk music and local traditional costume groups.
Holiday in Jerzens
Treasure hunting with Pitzi
The youngest holidaymakers will quickly take a liking to him: Pitzi, the cute ibex. He is incredibly curious and would like to uncover every secret that nature has to offer. He is particularly fascinated by the Zirbengeist. Allegedly, it is up to mischief in the Hochzeiger hiking area. At least that's what the legend says, because no one has ever seen it. Pitzi needs a lot of support from little adventurers and their parents on his treasure hunt. At the valley station of the Hochzeiger gondola lift, parents can download the treasure hunt web app for their children. Then it continues to the middle station, where the exciting search begins. The path leads across rough terrain to predetermined points. Tricky questions must be answered there. Those who are knowledgeable about animals, plants, and the "mountain" habitat will receive a "Pitzi coin".
The world of Swiss pine
The people of Jerzens have a very intimate relationship with the species of the Swiss stone pine. Above the village stands a mighty Swiss stone pine forest that has always protected the village from dangerous mudslides or avalanches. In order to introduce visitors and locals to this valuable species of tree, the exhibition "The Swiss Stone Pine - A Border-Crosser with Talents" was created. Here you can learn everything about the natural habitat of the tree, the positive effects of the wood on the mind and health, as well as numerous possibilities for further processing.
Exciting: the unusual comparison "human-Swiss stone pine" runs like a common thread through the entire exhibition.
