Vacation in St. Johann in Tyrol

The popular holiday destination of St. Johann in Tirol is located at 670 meters above sea level, nestled in the beautiful backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps. On one side rises the mountainous region around the Wilder Kaiser, on the other side the Kitzbüheler Horn, and in the middle of it all, in a tranquil valley, is St. Johann. The beautiful Tyrolean town likely received its name in the 8th century when a small church was built by clergy, which was to be dedicated to John the Baptist. Today, almost 8500 inhabitants have settled in the municipality, and every year tourists come from far and wide to enjoy the beauty of the untouched landscape. Here, culture and nature are at the center of life - 365 days a year.

In summer, you can explore the area in pleasant temperatures, while in winter, when it comes to skiing fun, you are spoiled for choice. Several ski areas invite the whole family to explore the enchanting snowy world. While the little ones learn in the ski school how to safely navigate the slopes, parents can relax with a stop at one of the rustic huts.

The cold season is particularly lively when the traditional "Koasalauf" takes place. The largest cross-country ski race in Austria attracts more than 2000 participants annually, who eagerly strap on their cross-country skis to compete.

Climbing adventure

There is also a sporty atmosphere in the Hornpark climbing forest. With the Harschbichl cable car, you can go up to the middle station, and there, in the middle of the Alps, lies the beautiful climbing area Hornpark. A little courage and skill are required to successfully conquer the more than 85 stations. The view from up here is also impressive: the Kitzbühel Alps provide an imposing backdrop for the climbing fun in the forest.

Before the adventure begins, both big and little "climbing enthusiasts" must complete a trial course and an introductory course. Then, the sporty visitors are required to have a lot of endurance: there are 85 climbing stations with a variety of elements and 14 flying fox zip lines available on 8 courses. One zip line is a considerable 210 meters long and leads directly over a mountain lake. You should also have a head for heights if you want to reach the highest point in the climbing course - it is located at a height of 21 meters. Even the little ones have been taken into account: they can test their surefootedness on less dangerous climbing elements and get a taste of "climbing" in the mini course.

Life on the mountain

Those who vacation in St. Johann in Tirol will quickly notice that life here takes place on the mountain - in the truest sense of the word. Especially in summer, there are numerous events celebrating culture and tradition. Outdoors, of course.

In addition to the musical Alm festival weeks, the so-called "Harschbichl Ranggler Cup" also takes place every year. The competition, where young and old like to show off their strength, is particularly popular with both locals and tourists. After all, it takes place at an altitude of 1700 meters!
