Vacation in the City of Kufstein
Attractions
Kufstein Fortress
The landmark of the city was first mentioned in a document in 1205 and has since had a eventful history. In addition to the Fortress and Homeland Museum, visitors can also visit the state prison, the artillery laboratory, and the Museum of the Tyrolean Imperial Riflemen and Marksmen in the Citizen's Tower. Changing special exhibitions are housed in the so-called Fuchsturm. The fortress can be visited all year round, with changed opening hours in winter.
Pilgrimage Church Maria Hilf
The church, also known as Maria Kleinholz, is located at the end of the linden avenue west of Ebbs. Around 1670, a small chapel was first built here, in which the miraculous image of Maria Hilf was housed, which is still the central object of the monastery today. The monastery was built in the first half of the 20th century by or for the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. Countless pilgrims come to Kufstein every year to admire the miraculous image, participate in retreats, or take a break.
Riedel Glass Show Hut
Under the motto "Adventure of Perception," visitors can watch the craftsmen at work and then take a journey into the world of the elementary senses in the "Sinfonie" or enjoy the adventure garden.
Historical Buildings in Kufstein
During a stroll through the city, you can admire historical buildings from different eras.
- The St. Vitus Parish Church, a late Gothic hall church, was baroqueized in the 17th century and renewed in the late classical style in the mid-19th century.
- At the Lower Town Square, there is not only the Marienbrunnen,
- but also the Town Hall. This is particularly noteworthy for its – atypical for Tyrol – stepped gable and its facade paintings with the coat of arms gallery.
- At the Upper Town Square, the Savings Bank Building from the 19th century
- and the Egger Building, an Art Nouveau building with a magnificent mirror hall, are worth seeing.
- In the old town, there is the Römerhofgasse, which is characterized by traditional houses and conveys a historical flair.
- The larger-than-life bronze statue of Andreas Hofer on the Heroes' Hill commemorates the Tyrolean uprising in the early 19th century,
- while the Madersperger Monument on Kienbergstrasse commemorates the famous son of Kufstein, the inventor of the sewing machine.
- Visitors to the city can find more information about Madersperger and his invention in the Sewing Machine Museum, which is housed in Madersperger's birthplace on Kinkstrasse.
Excursion destinations
In the immediate vicinity of the city, the ruins of Thierberg Castle from 1285 invite you to take a trip. By the way, the castle chapel has been a place of pilgrimage since the 16th century. Only the western part of the ring wall and the lower part of the keep are still preserved in the castle itself. The tower currently houses the Thierberg Marksmen's Museum. The surrounding mountain world invites you to go hiking or swimming in the nearby natural lakes.
