Geologically speaking, the Lienz Dolomites with their impressive mountain formations are part of the so-called Drauzug. They cover an area of about 40 kilometers and stretch from the Kartitscher Sattel near Sillian to the Gailbergsattel near the village of Oberdrauburg. The highest peaks of the limestone-formed mountain group are located near Lienz: the Große Sandspitze (2770 meters) and the Spitzkofel (2718 meters). The Lienz Dolomites are a paradise for enthusiastic climbers - which is hardly surprising given the alpine conditions. However, it's not just ambitious climbers who will enjoy it here, but also families and active holidaymakers. The leisure opportunities are almost unlimited. The little ones can really let off steam in the great outdoors, while mom and dad can enjoy the panoramic views.
Vacation in the Lienz Dolomites
Thrills
A vacation in the Lienz Dolomites offers plenty of variety. Especially popular with young and old is the Osttirodler. This is a year-round toboggan run that is one of the longest and most exciting "AlpineCoasters" in the world. It starts at the Moosalm at just over 1000 meters above sea level. Then it goes 2.7 kilometers down the Lienzer Schlossberg into the valley. The speed can be chosen by the tobogganers themselves. The safe two-seater vehicles are each equipped with two handbrake levers. So you can decide for yourself how fast you want to conquer the challenges of the Osttirodler (steep curves, spirals, and jumps). Depending on the chosen speed, the ride lasts between 4.5 and 6.7 minutes.
The toboggan run not only delights fans of fast thrills, but also those passengers who simply want to enjoy the view of Schloss Bruck, the city of Lienz, or the surrounding mountains. You should definitely have a head for heights, as the tracks of the track are sometimes 6 meters above the ground. Tip: if you want to take a souvenir photo home, you can use the photo point. Cameras take a photo of the guests during the fast ride and this can be picked up at the ticket office (for a fee) afterwards.
In addition to the Osttirodler, the Lienz-Hochstein climbing park is another attraction for those who like to wander in lofty heights. The park was built in the middle of a spacious forest area, paying immediate tribute to nature as an adventure world. The brave can move from tree to tree here at a height of 0.5 to 12 meters and complete various skill and coordination exercises. The climbing park is designed so that both small and large adventurers can find the right challenge.
Petting
In the leisure center Moosalm, above Lienz, is the petting zoo of the Tiefenbacher family. The Schlossbergbahn, an 8-seater gondola and 6-seater chairlift combination, ensures a gentle ascent to the cuddly animals. Once at the top, children can pet, feed, and marvel to their heart's content. Up here on the Moosalm, there are cute mini horses, fluffy rabbits, woolly white sheep, and curious goats. A forest playground with many attractive play equipment invites you to let off steam afterwards. Before heading back to your vacation accommodation after a long day, be sure to make a detour to the wild and romantic Galitzenklamm with its unique stone ball mill.
