Vacation in Lienz

Lienz is the capital of East Tyrol. Already in Roman times, this was the center of the region, the excavations of the Roman city of Aguntum and the associated museum provide an interesting insight into this long past time.

The Lienz Dolomites in the south, the Defereggen mountains in the west, the Schober group in the north and behind them the highest mountains in Austria, Großvenediger and Großglockner: here the mountain lover has plenty of opportunities all year round! In addition, there are the advantages of a small town with a rich cultural and leisure offer. For example, Bruck Castle, the landmark of Lienz, houses the city museum. In the 13th century castle, the significant painting collection with works by Albin Egger-Lienz and Franz Defregger can be admired, and there is also a current special exhibition every year. In Lienz, numerous concerts, theater performances, events, and the renowned street theater festival "Olala" take place. Not to forget the many sports events from the legendary "Dolomitenmann" to the Ski World Cup! And of course, especially on vacation, you can simply enjoy the unique atmosphere of Austria's "Sun City", stroll through the pretty streets of the old town, shop, and linger in one of the numerous cafes and restaurants.

The local hotel industry offers guests everything they can rightly expect from the generally high standard of Tyrolean hotels. Elegant furnishings, modern wellness areas, and first-class service make your holiday in Lienz an unforgettable experience. The offer ranges from family and sports hotels to wellness hotels, cozy romantic hotels, and luxurious design hotels. Enjoy a holiday full of wellness and relaxation in the warm-hearted hospitality of East Tyrol.

The East Tyrolean mountains are a fantastic hiking area in the summer, leaving nothing to be desired. The Dolomites are particularly suitable for climbing, and there are also countless mountain biking routes. Cyclists love the Drau Cycle Path through the Puster Valley, which leads to the source of the Drau River in Toblach (and in the other direction to Maribor in Slovenia). Because of the many cycling opportunities, the holiday region is also called "Bike Arena Lienz Dolomites". Other sports on offer for your summer vacation include paragliding, rafting, and tennis. Lienz is also a pioneer in the new Nordic sports: Nordic walking and Nordic blading can be practiced here, as well as Nordic skiing and Nordic snowshoeing in winter.

In the winter holiday, skiers and snowboarders will find a beautiful and not yet overcrowded ski area on the local mountains Hochstein and Zettersfeld, where regular ski World Cup races also take place. A total of 40 km of slopes, including a fun park, guarantee an undisturbed holiday pleasure. Winter hiking and snowshoeing are also wonderful in the Lienz mountains. There are 110 km of cross-country trails available for cross-country skiing, and numerous natural toboggan runs with up to 7.5 km in length. As an additional attraction for your holiday, a new, 2.7 km long year-round toboggan run on Hochstein will be opened in the 2010 winter season!
