Market town in the Hochpustertal

Holiday in Sillian

The 2,000 inhabitants municipality is located at 1103 meters above sea level in the district of Lienz on the western border of East Tyrol. Sillian is the main town of the idyllic Puster Valley. In the east, the municipal area is bordered by the Villgratenbach, and in the south it extends to the Carnic Ridge. In the north, the "Hausberg" Thurntaler (2407 meters above sea level) rises. Whether it's a family vacation, romantic days for two, or an active sports vacation - a few days in Sillian offer everything your heart desires. In the districts of Arnbach, Sillian, and Sillianberg, numerous accommodations are available, which warmly welcome and hospitably accommodate their guests. Especially popular with the little ones: a vacation on the farm. For a few days, children can enjoy the good country air here and help shape the farm life. The direct contact with the animals not only delights the little ones, but also the adults.

In the morning, you should definitely fortify yourself, because there is a lot to discover in and around Sillian: the Pustertal High Road, the Drau Cycle Path, the Carnic High Trail, and the mountain huts in the Villgratental. The latter is a side valley of the Upper Puster Valley and still a hidden gem. The highest located village in the valley is at 1639 meters above sea level, the valley is surrounded by the Defereggen Mountains, the Villgrater Mountains, and the South Tyrolean Dolomites. Here in the Villgratental, they focus on originality and individual tourism. The accommodations are small, cozy, and in many places, run by families. The surrounding alpine pastures have been lovingly restored in parts and are now a real gem for visitors and guests.

In the world of gnomes

A special experience for the whole family is a visit to the Wichtelpark. Here, games, fun, and lots of excitement await. Located in the middle of the forest, the Wichtelpark offers numerous attractions for little adventurers. On the 18-hole mini-golf course, you have to prove your skill, the zip line requires a lot of courage, and with the spectacular tube slide, you go down the mountain for more than 30 meters. Particularly popular with the little earthlings: the mini go-kart track. It promises driving fun in miniature format. While the children let off steam while playing, the adults can make themselves comfortable at one of the covered barbecue areas. When the hungry adventurers return, they grill and eat together. There is also a high ropes course with a double tower system in the Wichtelpark. Ambitious climbers can train their skill, surefootedness, and sense of balance on 8 different courses. Some of the stations reach up to 8 meters in height, totaling 65 elements and 12 flying foxes.

Hiking pleasure for young and old

The popular Carnic High Trail, which has a total length of 155km and can be completed in 6-9 daily stages, also passes by Sillian. Between Sillian and the Plöcken Pass, there is a section of the high trail that is particularly family-friendly. There you will find 8 mountain huts and 20 peaks that are easy to hike and therefore suitable for families with children. The surrounding meadows and alpine pastures also invite you to leisurely hiking tours or relaxing walks in untouched nature. For those who want to get up faster, numerous gondolas and chairlifts are available.
