Kaunertal Glacier Ski Area

The Kaunertal Glacier is a compact ski resort in the heart of Tyrol. The ski area on the glacier was opened in 1980 and has since been an insider tip among individualists and enthusiastic off-piste skiers.

Thanks to its connection to the Fendels ski area, the Kaunertal Glacier is also very popular with families.

Although the Kaunertal Glacier ski area is located at a high altitude, it is easily accessible by car. With more than 29 hairpin bends, the Kaunertal Glacier Road leads up to one of the most snow-sure ski areas in Tyrol. From October onwards, 38 well-prepared kilometers of slopes await both big and small conquerors. These are divided into 20km of blue slopes, 12km of red slopes, and 6km of very difficult black slopes. Long waiting times at the ski lifts and overcrowded slopes are not known at the Kaunertal Glacier. The slopes have been specially designed to be wide, so that there is enough space for every turn.

Family world Fendels

The wishes and needs of families are taken into account in the Fendels ski area. It is located between 1,400m and 2,000m above sea level and is particularly child-friendly. In the "Bibiland" children's area, the little ones learn how to ski safely, and then 8 easy kilometers of slopes invite them to test their newly acquired skills. Advanced skiers also get their money's worth - 6km of red slopes and 2km of black slopes await them. For those looking for a bit of variety off the slopes, a detour to the 4.5km long natural toboggan run in Fendels is highly recommended. Weekly highlight: every Thursday night owls can toboggan or ski from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Paradise for freeriders

At the Kaunertal Glacier, there are varied off-piste runs available on more than 30 kilometers of slopes - optimal conditions for enthusiastic freeriders. The possibilities are diverse: some opt for a enjoyable ride in deep powder snow, while others venture on a particularly challenging tour with ice axe and crampons in their luggage. Tip: for beginners, the Weißseejoch variant is recommended. A project called "Check your Line" has been implemented there. On the 700m descent, there are information boards and important hints at 4 different points. They remind of the risks of freeriding and advocate for more personal responsibility.

Basic data:
