The quaint villages typical for this region are spread out over gentle valley floors and steep slopes. In the midst of it all stretches a cross-country skiing area totaling 244 kilometers of trails. The trail network connects the towns of Kössen, Walchsee, Schwendt, and Rettenschöss. Away from the cross-country trails, there are numerous catering and lodging businesses that specialize in cross-country skiers. The Kaiserwinkl region is in fact a member of the association 'Tyrolean Cross-Country Skiing Specialists' and also has the Tyrolean Cross-Country Skiing Trails Quality Seal.
