Holiday in Obertilliach

In the East Tyrolean Lesachtal, at an altitude of 1450 meters, lies the village of Obertilliach, where especially in summer the climatically favorable weather conditions prevail a Mediterranean flair.
The picturesque village, which is also part of the European Guild of Tower and Night Watchmen, focuses primarily on nature-oriented recreational opportunities and a balanced ratio between bed capacity and population. For this reason, Obertilliach is also part of the 'Austrian Mountaineering Villages', where sustainable tourism and hospitality are the focus.

Obertilliach has a cross-country skiing and biathlon center, where also world-famous biathletes and cross-country skiers train. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can enjoy a varied network of trails in and around the village. The Golzentipp ski area is also very popular with families, but the wild romantic forests and the snow-covered nature can also be enjoyed on a snowshoe hike or a ski tour.

In the warmer season, Obertilliach lives up to its name as a mountaineering village, with hikes starting from here for all levels of difficulty. To the north of the village lie the Gailtal Alps, which are especially suitable for hikes with the whole family. A good starting point is also the Golzentipp, which can be reached directly from the village by gondola lift. More challenging tours are offered to the south of Obertilliach, where the Carnic High Route also extends. This long-distance hiking trail is a total of 168 kilometers long and can be completed in eleven stages. Another unforgettable experience is the pilgrimage route 'High and Holy', which begins in Lienz and also leads hikers to Obertilliach.

The old farmhouses, some of which are listed buildings and can be admired in the narrow streets of the village, are also fantastically beautiful. For this reason, Obertilliach is often referred to as the 'wooden village'. In addition, the only Austrian night watchman still makes his rounds at regular intervals.
