Difficulty level: Moderate to difficult
Altitude: about 1,060 meters
Total ascent time: approx. 3 hours (without a break, good walking pace)
This tour requires a sufficiently high amount of snow, as it repeatedly goes through dense forest.
The Thialkopf rewards you with a beautiful mountain panorama. But before you can enjoy it, this tour demands a lot of alpine skills and mountain experience from you. The upper area has steep slopes, which are not always a piece of cake to traverse.
But let's start from the parking lot at Stadelesegg. Follow the road, past the highest houses in the area, then continue along the slope and you will eventually reach the forest road. Here you will come across a small chapel - the "Hubertuskapelle". Continue the tour along the summer path and pay attention to the signs pointing to Thialkopf. It won't be long before you have reached the Hochgallmigger Alm.
The next point on our map is the Grametsee, which is located to the north. Once there, take on the lightly wooded ridge that now unfolds in front of you. This is followed by a high valley, a wide plateau, and a saddle before you reach the ridge that leads you over a final steep step to the mountain peak with the summit cross.
The descent is initially back over the ascent route. A possible shortcut that promises skiing fun is available from the Grametsee, where you can ski down a gully almost to the small chapel and then, as usual, cover the further distance to the parking lot.
Especially in the upper area of this ski tour, you need to be aware of the avalanche danger. So make sure you have good snow conditions and perfect visibility.
