Difficulty level: Moderate to difficult
Altitude difference: about 1,300 meters
Total ascent time: about 3.5 hours (without breaks, at a good walking pace)

Plattkofel – the name is not a coincidence. From a distance, you can already see the characteristic rock formations that make the almost 3,000 meter high summit in the Langkofel Group look like a right-angled triangle. Especially from the Seiser Alm, visitors have a clear view of this characteristic feature.

Saltria on the Seiser Alm is the starting point for this ski tour. Due to the steep slope, it is not advisable to start here without any touring experience.
First, you climb the ski slope along the Florian chairlift to the mountain station and the Williams Hut. Of course, for the sake of convenience, you can also use the lift.
Once at the top, take the marked forest path down to just above the Zallinger Hut. There, a section of the route begins with some stations of the cross. Follow these along the ridge. The path leads to the Fassa-Joch with the Plattkofel Hut at 2,300 meters above sea level.

From the hut, you reach a steep slope of the Plattkofel. Keep slightly to the left and soon you will reach the clearly visible main hollow between the west summit and the main summit. Some switchbacks lead up to the summit from the side. In the upper area, head directly into the hollow. Next task: cross over and head to the right on a flat ridge. You now climb to the main summit and the summit cross.

The descent follows the same route as the ascent. However, if Mother Hulda has been generous, it is recommended to ski from the summit cross to the west summit (gentle slope), continue to the Plattkofel Hut and to the Stampfalm slightly below the Zallinger Hut. For the onward journey, use the toboggan run and the ski slope until you finally return to Saltria.

Attention: The road to Saltria is closed to traffic. Transportation is provided by a bus line, which you must follow the schedule of.

Ski tours require knowledge, experience, fitness, good planning, and appropriate equipment. Please also inform yourself about the current avalanche warning level before each ski tour and take into account the "Stop or Go risk management" by Michael Larcher and mountain guide Robert Purtscheller, recommended by the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV).
