The special geographical location makes this spot a place that is often kissed by the sun. It is therefore not surprising that Watles is the sunniest ski resort in the Ortler Skiarena and the region. Good conditions for a family-friendly natural toboggan run.
The starting point is the parking lot at the Watles valley station. From here, the chairlift takes you to the mountain station in a short time, where the Plantapatschhütte not only spoils you with a hearty, traditional South Tyrolean Marende but also with its sunny terrace and an incredibly great view of the Ortler.
Vital-active hikers and snow enthusiasts can also dare the ascent on foot. The footpath leads along the side of the toboggan run and takes about 1.5 hours. If you are on the way without a toboggan, but once you reach the top, you catch the sledding fever, then do not despair: At the Watles mountain station there is a toboggan rental, which can surely help you out.
Besides the shelter, the approximately 4 kilometers long toboggan run starts, on which you cover a difference in altitude of 400 meters. The sometimes flat and sometimes moderately steep track falls into the category "easy" and is therefore a popular destination for families with children.
A part of the route leads through the larch forest and lets you feel and breathe in the beauty of the regional nature with every minute of the ride. And when the ride is over with the arrival at the valley station, there's nothing like a concluding drink together in the igloo bar at the valley station.
