Sights in Tirolo
Castle Tirol
The imposing castle named Castle Tirol majestically sits on a hill and is allegedly responsible for the name "Dorf Tirol" (Village of Tirol). The castle was built around 1140 and served as the stately residence of the Counts of Tyrol. Over the decades, the castle fell into disrepair, and it was not until 1919 that it came under the care of the Italian National Monument Office. After numerous renovation works, it was taken over by the South Tyrol region and is still actively used today. Not only is the regional museum located here, but special events and artistic exhibitions also take place regularly.
Parish Church of Tirol
The oldest mission and John's baptism church in the area is located in Tirol and was initially in the Romanesque style, but later expanded with a Gothic choir. Noteworthy are the baptismal font made of white marble (from Laas) and the impressive organ with many old metal and wooden pipes.
Brunnenburg
Also located halfway between Tirolo / Dorf Tirol and Castle Tirol is the magical Brunnenburg, which houses an interesting agricultural museum and is publicly accessible to visitors. Concerts and readings also take place here regularly.
Tip: A visit to the Burglehenpark at the entrance to the village. This beautiful park, opened in June 2002, houses the steel horse named "Jakob," which was constructed by the South Tyrolean artist Franz Messner as a combination of a play device and artwork. Many benches surround the idyllic natural pond, inviting visitors to linger and dream. While parents enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view, the little ones can let off steam on the play horse "Jakob." A visit to the local Bird Care Center is also recommended. Here, there are bird flight demonstrations and an exciting educational trail describing the habitat of the proud birds of prey.
Hiking Pleasure
The beautiful surroundings are perfect for numerous hikes and nature experiences. It is essential to plan a trip to these destinations.
- Spronser Seen. At over 2,500 meters above sea level, there are ten crystal-clear mountain lakes that together form the largest plateau of lakes in the Alps.
- Also worthwhile is a hike to the typical Muthöfen, which bear witness to the peasant culture and way of life and still tell the story of the country's history today.
