Holiday in Postal / Burgstall

Sometimes you get the feeling that time stands still in Postal / Burgstall. The small village is located at an altitude of 270 meters and is only 8km away from Merano. Among South Tyrol holidaymakers, Postal is still considered a hidden gem. There are no more than 1600 inhabitants here, yet there are plenty of cozy accommodations available for holiday guests. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and simply let your soul dangle, this is the right place. Nature sets the pace and everyone follows suit. Instead of stress, there is silence, and instead of anonymity, there is genuine hospitality. The mild, Mediterranean climate of the region has a positive effect on circulation and well-being, and you can take a lot of relaxation home from here.

The area around Postal / Burgstall is very popular with hikers on the one hand, but it also appeals to city tourists. They stay in the town center and explore the most beautiful cities in South Tyrol from there. The lovely town of Merano is only a few kilometers away, the same goes for the lively regional capital of Bolzano. Many holidaymakers love to stroll through the city, enjoy the lively hustle and bustle, and then return to the quieter Postal in the evening. It really feels a bit like "coming home."

Fit on vacation

Anyone who thinks that you can only take it easy in Postal / Burgstall is mistaken. Numerous hiking and cycling trails in the region invite you to be a little more active. Tip: you can really exert yourself on the “Graf-Volkmar-Weg”. It leads through predominantly shady forest areas for almost 2.5 kilometers and is both a walking path and a fitness course. Along the route, there are numerous stations available where you can get your body in shape. The "Trimm-Dich-Pfad" (fitness trail), which is located on the southern part of the route, ensures that you can work up a sweat even on vacation.

A hike to the Tschögglberg also requires a bit of endurance. It is located slightly above Postal / Burgstall and is accessible via a narrow, steep ridge. The effort is worth it – from up here, you have a wonderful view, especially when the sun sets picturesquely over the valley. For those who want to spare their joints and knees, the Burgstall-Vöran cable car serves as a gentle ascent aid.

Sights

It was probably a castle that once gave the small town of Burgstall its name. The knight Volkmar von Burgstall had his stately residence here from 1280 to 1342, of which unfortunately little remains today. The castle was destroyed during military conflicts and was not rebuilt. Today, the ruins of Burgstall are a popular destination for young and old. Via the "Graf-Volkmar-Weg" (named after the famous owner of the castle), you can reach the remains of the stately residence. The square tower, a residential building, and parts of the ring wall are still recognizable.

Merano once again hosts a city museum, which was opened in the impressive historical ambiance of the Palais Mamming. However, the palace alone could not accommodate the extensive collection, so it was not only lovingly restored, but a new part of the museum was also created, which was integrated directly into the Küchelberg behind it.
