Vacation in Plaus

Plaus in the Vinschgau is located about 10km west of Merano. The small municipality with not even 700 inhabitants is a haven of peace and relaxation. The old village well under the protected maple tree in the square opposite the parish church perfectly symbolizes this idyll: Here you can forget everyday life and stress, take a vacation and enjoy life.

Worth seeing is the parish church of St. Ulrich, a Gothic building with a massive Romanesque bell tower. On the outer cemetery wall, you can discover the 18 pictures of the "Plauser Totentanz" (Plaus Dance of Death) by the Vinschgau painter and author Luis Stefan Stecher. Each picture is accompanied by a hearty motto in the Vinschgau dialect: "Laich is Laich, is olm lai Laich - pann Huamgian saimr olle glaich."

If Plaus is also an ideal holiday destination for relaxation and wellness, there are still plenty of leisure activities and opportunities for active sports. Hiking is possible here all year round, with hiking trails and paths of all difficulty levels at Vigiljoch and in the Texel Group National Park. Cycling and mountain biking are almost unlimited in the Etschtal. A wonderful area for Nordic walking, as well as jogging, inline skating, and leisure biking can be found in the "Nature.Fitness.Park" in the neighboring municipality of Naturns.

Other sports activities in Plaus and the surrounding area include climbing, rafting, paragliding, and golf. Extensive wellness offerings with 25 pools, several saunas and steam baths, and a huge spa and vital area can be found at the Merano Thermal Baths.
In winter, the 15 sunny ski areas of the Ortler Skiarena – especially the nearby Vigiljoch and Meran 2000 – offer unspoiled skiing pleasure for everyone. Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, sledding – everything that belongs to a winter vacation is also possible here! Of course, the current trend sports of winter hiking and snowshoeing are also included!

The hotel industry in Plaus always offers - whether in summer or winter - the perfect ambience in which you will feel comfortable. The service and amenities of the hotels leave nothing to be desired, in the cozy family hotel as well as in the exclusive wellness hotel.

It should also be mentioned that Plaus is a very environmentally conscious municipality. Thus, the energy for public buildings is obtained from vegetable oil. And another specialty: In a total of five businesses in the village, pork is still processed into bacon according to old tradition! During your vacation, you should definitely take a few samples!
