Walking, hiking, climbing
Of course, a holiday in Welsberg-Taisten is also worthwhile in summer: The region, the Pustertal, is ideal for relaxing walks or active hikes through nature. The mountains offer various routes for different demands. A trip to the Taistner Alm is recommended. In the mountains, you will come across alpine huts that have traditional South Tyrolean cuisine on the menu. For those who really want to reach new heights, there are climbing walls where professional climbers can also get their money's worth.
No boredom!
There is always something going on in the community: In addition to traditional village festivals, art exhibitions and classical concerts are also held in Welsperg Castle. Apart from that, visiting the castle is highly recommended, as it also houses a museum. Other cultural highlights include the Church of St. Margaret and the Romanesque Church of St. George, which can be viewed as part of a guided tour. But it is also worth visiting the Erasmus and Jacob chapels.
A long history
An anecdote: Taisten has a long history: The village was mentioned in a document in 770 - how long it has actually existed can only be guessed. According to historians, the municipality was probably settled by the Illyrians, who also gave it its name.
The village can boast prominent citizens: The famous Baroque painter Paul Troger comes from Welsberg, and the artist Simon von Taisten also has his roots here. Celebrities like Hugo von Hoffmannsthal or Arthur Schnitzler also liked to spend their holidays in the village.
Welsberg-Taisten offers its visitors various accommodation options: The conventional option is to check into an inn or hotel. For holidaymakers who want to cater for themselves, holiday apartments are best suited. A tip for families: Holidays on the farm are particularly exciting for children. Here, the little ones can be close to horses, cows, and pigs.
