The Hochpustertal with its impressive peaks of the Three Peaks, Hohe Gaisl and Dürrenstein attracts numerous hikers to South Tyrol every year. Even the famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner has pursued his passion here. A particularly idyllic community is Braies / Prags, which includes Outer and Inner Prags, Schmieden and St. Veit. The small 600-inhabitant village is located in the middle of the Pragsertal and in the Sanes-Fennes-Prags Nature Park, which offers relaxation and plenty of greenery to its visitors.
From the Wildsee to the high plateau
Those who spend their summer vacation in the Hochpustertal will not miss the opportunity to put on their hiking boots and explore the mountain landscape. Here, you don't have to be a professional to walk interesting routes, because you can also reach the most beautiful viewpoints with the lift. One of them is certainly the Plätzwiese in Sanes-Fennes-Prags. The high plateau is the starting point for the hiking trails to the Dürrenstein - those who prefer to rest here will find accommodation in the Dürrensteinhütte. The ascent to the Seekofel is also recommended, from which you can also enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the landscape. The Pragser Wildsee, a romantic mountain lake and surely one of the most beautiful in South Tyrol, can be chosen as the starting point for the hike. For those who are not satisfied with hiking in nature, there are various climbing gardens to let off steam.

The Dolomiti Superbike Race
An alternative to walking through the mountains is mountain biking. Admittedly, a certain amount of endurance is required to conquer the mountains by bike. Those who do not shy away from the challenging tours through the Dolomites may find participation in the "Dolomiti-Superbike" mountain bike competition interesting. Here, active cyclists compete in what is probably the toughest mountain bike race in the Dolomites.
Winter sports fans are also well catered for in the Pragertal: Numerous cross-country ski trails as well as the Kameriot and Sonnleiten ski lifts allow for extensive skiing pleasure. Braies / Prags has its own ski school where beginners can familiarize themselves with winter sports. The Pustertal Ski Marathon takes place annually, one of the largest cross-country ski races in the Hochpustertal.
Culture for the ears and eyes
In summer, the International Choir Festival invites you to enjoy musical sounds: Gospel, folk songs and opera from all over the world can be heard. For those who also want to enjoy some architectural culture, they should visit the church in St. Veit.
The accommodation options in and around Braies / Prags are diverse: Rustic farms, wellness hotels, hotels or holiday apartments are part of the offer, as well as guesthouses or apartments. But with the beautiful mountain panorama, you should definitely secure a room with a balcony.
