Holiday in San Candido

The holiday resort Innichen in the Puster Valley invites its visitors to a varied holiday. San Candido, as the municipality is called in Italian, is located in the beautiful nature park Sextner Dolomites, which is part of the Unesco World Heritage. Innichen includes the villages of Vierschach and Winnebach - in total, over 3000 people live here. The village has existed for 1,200 years and is now a popular destination for families or couples, but also for athletes who spend an adventurous time here.

Like once Reinhold Messner

Innichen is especially known for its challenging climbing rocks. Steep and high - those who dare to climb one of the rock walls will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the idyllic landscape. The legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner has also pursued his passion in the region. The peaks of the Tre Cime, the Dreischusterspitze, and the Paternkofel are very famous. For those who prefer it a bit quieter, they can explore the surroundings on one of the countless hiking trails and be enchanted by the Dolomite panorama.

In addition to climbing and hiking, there are also opportunities for Nordic walking, mountain biking, or motorcycle tours in and around Innichen. In the cold season, the municipality transforms into an impressive winter landscape, inviting you to ski, snowboard, cross-country ski, or sled. Fun for young and old is guaranteed. The highlight of the winter is the International Snow Sculpture Festival, which stops in Innichen every January. About 30 artists exhibit their designs made of snow cubes here. For 3 days, the creatives work on their works with fresh snow.

Idyllic churches, cozy village center

Those who want to enjoy some culture should take a look at the Romanesque collegiate church and visit the Church of St. Michael, which dates back to the late Baroque period. Both buildings are very worth seeing and a good balance to long hikes or sporting activities. After that, a little shopping tour in the popular pedestrian zone and a walk through the town center is recommended. Not only souvenir shops, but also various inns with Puster Valley specialties lure visitors.

Accommodation can be found in Innichen in abundance: There is a choice between rustic inns, modern hotels, or simple holiday homes. In wellness hotels, visitors can indulge themselves extensively.

High up, surrounded by a breathtaking mountain panorama, different rules apply than down in the valley. The weather turns faster, a planned tour sometimes requires more effort than expected, and a small misstep can sometimes necessitate an early return.
