When you think of the holiday destination Castelrotto / Kastelruth in the Seiser Alm holiday region, you immediately think of the famous folk music group "Die Kastelruther Spatzen". And indeed, the musicians regularly ensure a good mood here: three times a year, they perform their songs in the 6500-inhabitant community - in June an open air concert is held, in October the Spatzenfest attracts visitors, and in December the group performs at the Kastelruther Christmas market, which is known for its traditional crafts and tasty South Tyrolean cuisine. Not only folk music fans get their money's worth at the entertainers' performances, because the mountain atmosphere practically puts everyone in the right mood for the cozy mountain sounds.
Castelrotto / Kastelruth
Following the trails of witches
Of course, Castelrotto / Kastelruth has more to offer than just its Spatzen. With its districts Seiser Alm, St. Michael, St. Oswald, St. Valentin, Pufels, Runggadutsch, Seis am Schlern, St. Vigil, Tagusens, Tisens and Sureghes, the municipality has plenty of sights in store for its tourists. For example, the Kastelruther church tower is highly recommended, as it offers a wonderful view of the idyllic mountain landscape from the top. Particularly interesting for families with children: a hike along the paths to the Hexenbänke, an old pagan cult site. The municipality itself has a beautiful historic village center with picturesque alleys and houses. In the surrounding area, various castles, palaces, and churches can also be visited.
Castelrotto / Kastelruth: First feast, then exercise
The holiday resort has a lot to offer for gourmets: In addition to the delicacies at the Christmas market, the Hoazetkuchl ("Wedding Kitchen") is held in January, where you can taste traditional dishes from the region in participating restaurants. In summer, the Knödel and Strudel weeks continue the culinary delights. If you don't get full there, it's your own fault.
Sports enthusiasts can use the warm summer months to go on mountain bike tours or indulge in climbing. A bit more leisurely are hikes to rustic alpine huts. In winter, the ski fun beckons: modern lifts take the adventurous to the beautiful slopes. Ice skating and toboggan runs provide the necessary variety. Particularly relaxing are walks through the white snow, surrounded by an impressive Dolomite panorama.
