Vacation in Obergurgl and Hochgurgl

At the end of the Ötztal valley are Obergurgl - the highest church village in Austria at 1,930m above sea level - and Hochgurgl (2,150m above sea level). Alpine tourism has a long tradition here, with roots dating back to the mid-19th century when the first paths and shelters were built. Today, Obergurgl/Hochgurgl is a top winter sports center, but still a fantastic hiking and summer holiday area.

Due to its high altitude directly on the main Alpine ridge, the ski area guarantees absolute snow reliability, because where the lifts end elsewhere, the skiing fun only begins in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl! The cable cars lead up to 3,080m, and the panorama up here is naturally magnificent. 110km of slopes make skiing and snowboarding a pleasure and offer "Top Quality Skiing": skiing without waiting times right to the hotel door, from mid-November to early May! Ski holidays are stress-free and relaxing!

If that's not enough, in the nearby glacier ski area of Sölden, there are another 151 kilometers of slopes. The rear Ötztal valley is also phenomenal for cross-country skiing, ski touring, winter hiking, and snowshoeing. In addition, there are many other leisure activities for your winter holiday such as sledding or horse-drawn sleigh rides.

In summer, the Ötztal valley is a uniquely beautiful hiking area. In addition to leisurely valley and alpine hikes and easy high-altitude hikes, the high alpine region of the surrounding 21 peaks over 3,000 meters is particularly appealing. Cross-border tours to neighboring South Tyrol are also very attractive.

During your summer vacation, you can also enjoy mountain biking here. Horse enthusiasts will find a riding school with a large, modern riding hall in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. The Haflinger horses from their own breeding are available for lessons and rides.

The range of hotels and accommodations is also excellent. The hotel industry in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl stands for exclusive standard and comfort combined with warm hospitality. In the chic bars and restaurants, you will meet an international audience, and the hotels offer extensive service with wellness, beauty, and spa for the perfect holiday feeling.

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl also scores with an exceptionally mild climate for its altitude. Influenced by the Merano Basin and protected by the high mountain ranges, the duration of sunshine is even 10% higher than that of Bolzano! The climate is particularly pleasant for pollen allergy sufferers, as even during the main flowering season, the pollen levels are very low. And for the annoying dust mites, the air is simply too thin at this altitude, so they are not viable. So, treat yourself to something good, because holidays in the mountains are always a wellness vacation.

Behavior in the High Mountains

High up, surrounded by a breathtaking mountain panorama, different rules apply than down in the valley. The weather turns faster, a planned tour sometimes requires more effort than expected, and a small misstep can sometimes necessitate an early return.
