Sights

To list all the sights of the Tyrolean state capital here would go beyond the scope of this page. Mention should be made in particular of the Imperial Palace, the Hofkirche with the famous cenotaph of Emperor Maximilian I, the St. Jakob's Cathedral, Ambras Castle, the Basilica Wilten, and of course the city's landmark: the Golden Roof. In addition, there are numerous event venues such as the Tyrolean State Theatre with an attractive program of opera, operetta, musicals and drama, the City Theatre and several smaller stages, as well as the Dogana and the Congress Innsbruck. We also find important museums such as the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum, the Zeughaus, the City Museum, or the Bell Museum in the state capital. Festivals such as the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Easter Festival, or the Dance Summer are perceived far beyond the national borders and attract thousands of guests to Tyrol every year.

The fact that Innsbruck also offers space for modern, avant-garde architecture is immediately evident in the new landmark of the city, the Bergisel Ski Jump. Here, where the first ski jumping competitions were held in the 1920s and the Olympic Games were held twice, and where the International Four Hills Tournament stops every year, a new ski jump was built in 2001 according to the plans of the Iraqi star architect Zaha Hadid, which attracted international attention. The famous Nordkette cable car was also redesigned by Zaha Hadid and impresses with the perfect combination of listed building fabric and state-of-the-art cable car system.

Sports and Entertainment

Innsbruck is - as the venue for the Olympic Winter Games - a winter sports resort par excellence. The Olympiaworld Innsbruck combines 8 ski areas, including the Patscherkofel with the legendary Olympic downhill run and the Stubaier Glacier. 81 cable cars and lifts and 280 kilometers of slopes offer plenty of fun and variety for skiing and snowboarding on a ski holiday. There are also many beautiful cross-country ski trails available in the holiday region. By the way, the use of the ski and cross-country ski bus is free for holiday guests with the Club Innsbruck Card! Ice skating, ice hockey, and tobogganing are also part of the holiday offering, and due to the unique location in the middle of the Alps, winter and snowshoe hiking is also possible. Finally, on the Olympic bobsleigh track in Igls, you can experience the feeling of the ice channel up close on vacation, accompanied by an experienced pilot.

Even in the summer holiday, the sports offerings in Innsbruck and its holiday villages are almost inexhaustible. The surrounding mountains are a wonderful hiking area, and of course there are also plenty of climbing routes and mountain bike trails. Several cycle paths invite you to explore the area by bike. Running and Nordic walking, rafting, kayaking, and paragliding are also part of the leisure activities for your holiday, as well as swimming, horseback riding, golf, or tennis, as well as various adventure and trend sports such as bungee jumping, skydiving, and dirt biking.

Numerous indoor sports facilities offer a wide range of activities throughout the year and in all weather conditions, from fitness to bouldering to swimming and (ice) hockey, as well as many wellness offerings.

In the city itself and its holiday villages, you will easily find a suitable holiday accommodation. There are hotels in all categories and price ranges up to five-star luxury hotels. Whether you opt for a comfortable family hotel, a sophisticated wellness hotel, a romantic hotel, or a chic design hotel: the facilities and service meet the highest standards in any case. In modern wellness areas, you will find relaxation and hospitality that makes you forget everyday life. A holiday stay in an Innsbruck hotel becomes an unforgettable experience for the holiday guest.

In the 15th century, a sovereign rarely demonstrated closeness to the people through his residence. The Hofburg, built by the Habsburgs, was already considered one of the most beautiful secular buildings of the late Gothic period under Emperor Maximilian I.
