Accessible Vacationing in Tyrol

In Tyrol, specially tested facilities and hotels create ideal conditions to enjoy the fantastic nature even in a wheelchair.

Many hotels, for example, have extra-wide parking spaces and thresholds and step-free main entrances, so that visitors can start their vacation optimally. Furthermore, the room furnishings are perfectly adapted to the needs of wheelchair users: The sinks are accessible from below, the carpets have very good rolling properties and the toilets are also wheelchair-friendly and can be easily reached.

Some establishments also enable deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals to have a successful stay in Tyrol. In these hotels, very important information is designed to be visually or optically perceivable. Upon request, guests can receive a portable deaf and hard-of-hearing kit that includes wireless headphones and an induction system. Special flashing light alarm clocks also ensure that one wakes up on time in the morning. More and more businesses are also removing rotating or revolving doors to allow people with visual impairments to have a pleasant vacation. Best safety is also provided by audible alarm systems, obstacle-free paths, and continuous handrails.

Accessible lifts and panoramic routes

In addition, wheelchair or hand-bike riders can reach the peaks with the Wilder Kaiser-Brixental mountain railways, as the twelve lifts are all equipped with ramps and safely transport guests to the barrier-free panoramic routes on the mountain. This includes, for example, the Hexenwasser Hochsöll, where hiking trails without inclines connect the individual stations. Those who want to go even higher can take the train to the summit of the Hohe Salve, where the highest Austrian pilgrimage church is located. Another wheelchair-accessible tour takes guests to the Brandstadl, where one can discover numerous adventure stations on the Kaiser circuit trail. Furthermore, hand bikers have a total of 19 tested routes at their disposal, making it possible to explore the beautiful Tyrolean mountain world. Differences in altitude, travel times, distances, and other details are precisely described so that everyone can find the right route for their condition.
