Located about 40km east of the Tyrolean state capital Innsbruck, the idyllic Zillertal with its 25 different municipalities is surrounded by an impressive mountain landscape, including the Zillertal Alps, the Tux Main Ridge, and the Tux Prealps. In the 19th century, when tourism was still in its infancy, the valley was discovered for tourism. In the beginning, passionate and intrepid mountaineers from Great Britain and Germany traveled here mainly in the summer for hiking and mountaineering, and from the middle of the previous century, a lively winter tourism developed. Each of the four Zillertal holiday regions (Fügen-Kaltenbach, Zell-Gerlos, Mayrhofen-Hippach, and Tux-Finkenberg) offers attractive winter sports facilities and exciting attractions for the summer months. And with the High Mountain Nature Park Zillertal Alps with 80 glaciers and 10 side valleys, this holiday region offers a true natural gem.

Tradition and customs are encountered at every turn. At festivities, you will also often come across the traditional Zillertal costume, where the men wear leather pants and a red chest piece, and the women wear a long-sleeved black dirndl with an apron. The musicians of the Zillertal are also recognizable by their traditional costume, as the area was and is the home of famous singer families. In the 19th century, the Rainer family achieved great success even in America. Even today, many folk music stars come from the Zillertal above average.
Among the best-known traditional events are the Gauder Fest in spring (one of the largest traditional and spring festivals in Austria) or the so-called Schaflschoade, an autumnal cattle drive.
We wish you a lot of fun on your vacation in the Zillertal!
