Vacation in Pertisau

On the shore of Lake Achensee lies the picturesque village of Pertisau, surrounded by fascinating hiking areas. Due to its ideal location, guests can pursue countless sports activities here, but also find peace and relaxation.

Pertisau is located on the edge of the Karwendel Nature Park, the largest Austrian nature reserve. Here, you can look forward to very special nature experiences and attractive excursions. For example, in the vicinity of Pertisau, a ride on the oldest European steam cog railway is worthwhile, and culture enthusiasts should also visit the Trinity Church in Pertisau or the parish church in Achenkirch. A day trip to the district capital of Schwaz with its planetarium or the silver mine is also recommended.

Wintry Pertisau

Pertisau is a perfect starting point for winter hikes or cross-country tours in the Karwendel Alpine Park. The cross-country network around Pertisau is well developed and includes a total of 200 kilometers of well-prepared trails that lead through the romantic landscape. In Pertisau itself, you can enter trails of varying difficulty levels, with the trail through the Falzthurntal particularly recommended. Skiers and snowboarders can reach the ski area at the "Zwölferkopf" with the Karwendel mountain railway, where both big and small athletes get their money's worth. In the "Zwölferkopf" ski area, there are seven runs and a snowboard ramp, which guarantee skiing fun with the best panorama of Lake Achensee. At the mountain station, you can enjoy the sun on the terrace, and beginners of all ages can try their first turns on the snow-covered meadow lifts. The Rofan cable car can also be easily reached from Pertisau, where a total of 14 kilometers of runs of all difficulty levels await visitors. Enthusiastic tobogganers are best off at the Christlum or choose the descent from the Pertisau toboggan hut. Toboggans can also be rented there, and of course, you can also stop by for a warm drink. Winter hikers will find great trails in the Tristenautal and Gerntal, while ski tourers will find the best conditions in the Karwendel or Rofan mountains. In addition, there is also an ice rink in the town center for curling or ice skating.

Diverse activities in summer

Pertisau was one of Emperor Maximilian's preferred hunting grounds, and many other nobles and artists also enjoyed their stay in this picturesque village. In the summer, you can stroll along the lakeside promenade or wander through the idyllic town center. In addition, Pertisau is also home to the main pier of the Achensee shipping company, which has connected Pertisau, Maurach, and Achenkirch since 1887. Lake Achensee is also ideal for surfing and sailing, as well as other sports activities such as running, tennis, fishing, or Nordic walking. Mountaineers and hikers will find a true paradise in the mountains of Rofan. From Pertisau, you can easily reach the Rofan cable car, and the valley station of the Karwendel mountain railway is also located directly in the town center, from where you can embark on hikes of all difficulty levels in the Karwendel Nature Park. A tour to the pilgrimage site of St. Georgenberg is also worthwhile, a contemplation path that runs from Pertisau over the Stanser Joch to St. Georgenberg. In the area around Pertisau, there is also a well-developed network of mountain bike and cycling routes available for those seeking relaxation. Bicycles can be rented in the village, and guided bike tours are also offered regularly in the summer months. Pertisau is also very popular with golfers, with the 18 holes located on the meadows at the edge of the village. The diverse summer offerings are rounded off with climbing routes in the Karwendel and Rofan, horseback riding, or canoeing.

Healing Tyrolean shale oil

In Pertisau, you will find not only numerous recommended wellness hotels, but also the Tyrolean Stone Oil Vitalberg. The popular Tyrolean stone oil is extracted from oil shale and then processed into various health products. It is said to have healing properties. The oil shale is blasted and crushed, and then transported to the retort plant by cable car, where it is heated to 450 degrees in a special shaft furnace. The oil shale contains very special active ingredients that come from prehistoric plants and marine animals. The oil also contains naturally bound sulfur, which creates a particularly beneficial effect. Tyrolean stone oil is used for the care of skin and hair, but it is also used for rheumatic complaints. Especially in the wellness hotels at Lake Achensee, Tyrolean stone oil plays a significant role, where it is used in the form of stone oil baths, stone oil massages, or stone oil packs. Those who want to learn more about the history of stone oil extraction can visit the Tyrolean Stone Oil Vitalberg experience center in Pertisau, where visitors can learn a lot of interesting facts about the production of this beneficial essence.
