Here, too, you have to do without the ascent by lift. There is no such technical facility here. Instead, physical fitness is the focus in order to reach the highest starting point of the slope.
First, you walk along the first quarter of the route along the toboggan run, before the next three quarters go on a separate asphalt road to the first rest stop, the Kreithof. This stretch could even be managed by car. From the Kreithof, however, there is a restricted driving ban on the further route, which only allows service vehicles, toboggan taxis, and vehicles with official authorization.
The ascent on foot to the Kreithof will demand about 80 minutes of your time. From there, the next section leads you across a meadow directly adjacent to the farm, and finally along a toll road to the next rest stop - the Dolomitenhütte. With its facade of larch shingles, the Dolomitenhütte is recognizable from afar. Its interior enchants with rustic charm - wood paneling and an open fireplace await you. The kitchen mainly uses local products from the region, and the homemade cakes clearly reflect the love with which the food is prepared here.
The walk from the Kreithof to the Dolomitenhütte takes about 90 minutes. You will then be at an altitude of more than 1,600 meters. The impressive view of Lienz and the neighboring Osttiroler mountains makes this even clearer.
The descent to the Kreithof is designed for relatively fast speeds and the road can sometimes become quite slippery. Nevertheless, the entire route is classified as "moderately difficult" and is also suitable for families.
In particular, night tobogganing will remain a special adventure in your children's memories. From the Kreithof, the route to the valley is illuminated until 24:00. (Attention: The section from the Dolomitenhütte to the Kreithof has no lighting!)
A snowmaking system ensures the necessary snow if Mother Hulda doesn't want to play along. You must definitely bring your own sled - just like a lift, there is no sled rental here either.
For snow reports, it is best to contact the local tourist office.
