Off the ski slope, a natural toboggan run winds its way over a distance of 8 kilometers into the valley, and is always at the forefront when it comes to the search for the longest natural toboggan run in Tyrol – the Bergkastel toboggan run.
At about 2,200 meters above sea level, it is also one of the highest toboggan runs in Austria.
Perfect snow conditions are ensured, as the track is prepared daily. Its starting point is right at the mountain station of the Bergkastel cable car. From there, the easy track, which is very suitable for families with children, leads through the forest and thus provides a natural action experience for young and old. By the way, the track was redesigned in 2011, so now there are no flat sections anymore, through which one had to pull the toboggan before.
The lower part of the run runs along the edge of the ski slope and is at the same time part of the Lärchenalm toboggan run. This section is opened twice a week for night tobogganing – every Tuesday and Thursday tobogganing fun is possible until 24:00. However, please note that this only applies to the lower part of the Bergkastel run. The upper part is unlit and therefore not really suitable for night-time.
Nature boys and nature girls who want to save the ascent by lift – the altitude difference is 800 meters – can also hike to the mountain station on foot. The walking time is just over two hours. But then you have more than earned the regional delicacies that the Bergkastel restaurant offers. By the way, there is also a separate children's area with supervisors who look after the little slope racers.
Those who want to rent a toboggan can do so at the valley station of the Nauderer Bergbahnen. The opportunity should not be missed. Not for nothing was the track awarded the Tyrolean natural toboggan run quality seal. But before you start, you should check whether enough snow is available.
