Stubai Alps in Tyrol
Southwest of Innsbruck, the Stubai Alps are located between the Wipptal, the Ötztal and the Passeier. Both Austria and Italy share this mountain range, which offers a splendid stage for summer hikes and winter ski tours.

The Stubai Mountains can be easily reached from Austria via the already mentioned Wipptal or Gschnitztal, from the east via the Stubaital, from the west via the Ötztal, and from the north via the Sellraintal.
The eastern neighbors of the Stubai Mountains are the Tux Alps, in the southeast they meet the Zillertal Alps, in the south the Sarntal Alps await, and in the west the Ötztal Alps show their magnificent side. To the north, the Mieminger Chain awaits, while in the northeast you can catch a glimpse of the Karwendel.
Boldly shaped and sugar-coated, the highest peak of the Stubai Alps on Austrian soil reaches into the sky - the Zuckerhütl at a height of 3,507 meters. A beautiful high-altitude tour to the summit, which requires both experience and good condition, starts at the mountain station of the Schaufeljochbahn at the Stubai Glacier. After a refreshment at the highest restaurant in Austria, the Bergrestaurant Jochdohle (3,150 meters), you hike around the Schaufelspitze to the mountain station of the Fernausessellift. From here, continue to the Pfaffenjoch (3,212 meters), from where you pass the Sulzenauferner on the Stubai side. Once you have finally reached the Pfaffensattel, a section with block climbing awaits you to the summit. Allow 3.5 hours for the ascent and enjoy the breathtaking panorama with the Zillertal Alps, the Ötztal Alps, the Karwendel, and the Hohe Tauern with Großglockner and Großvenediger when you finally catch sight of the modern steel summit cross.
Swooshing over snow-covered expanses
Parts of the Stubai mountain range are still heavily glaciated - this is especially beneficial to visitors in winter. Family-friendly ski slopes, a giant slalom race track, freeride tracks, an ice climbing tower, or a tour through the underground ice cave - Austria's largest glacier ski area at the Stubai Glacier offers all this and much more. Thanks to its snow-sure location, you can enjoy skiing here from October to June. And with 26 ski lifts, 35 runs, and a total of about 65 kilometers of slopes, it will take some time to explore all the possibilities.
Around the Stubai World in 8 Days
The Stubai High Trail is a moderately difficult high-altitude hiking trail with a length of almost 100 kilometers. Those who walk the entire trail will need about 8 days and will have the opportunity to stop at eight different huts. Arranged as a circular route, it starts and ends in Neustift in the Stubaital. The high trail leads almost exclusively through alpine and high alpine terrain (partly secured with steel cables and iron rungs). Short climbing passages require experience and the right equipment.
Since you are in the high mountains, you should always be prepared for weather changes. On the website of the Stubai Tourism Association, you will find a list of equipment and can get information about the current condition of the trails.
The rustic alpine valleys were an inspiration for some artists - such as the Austrian Baroque painter Anton Zoller. Let the idyll work its magic on you, and you will discover the creative power that resides in this place.
