Mieminger Kette

More than 60 peaks line up like links in a chain in this mountain formation, thus creating a vacation spot with diverse facets.

Located in the heart of Tyrol, the mountain range, as part of the Northern Limestone Alps, has some popular high ridges as its closest neighbors - the Stubai Alps, the Ötztal Alps, the Lechtal Alps, the Karwendel and the Wetterstein.

Even though the Wetterstein Mountains are more popular, parts of the Mieming Chain are also considered rewarding attractions for hikers. Especially the fairytale-like Drachensee, the picturesque Seebensee, and the rustic Coburger Hut easily captivate visitors. Add the Hohe Munde (2,662 meters) to the mix, and you have the main attractions of the Mieming Mountains together.

The Hohe Munde is not only majestic to look at from a distance, but also offers those who climb it a 360-degree panoramic view over Telfs, the Inn Valley, the Wetterstein, the Zugspitze, the Karwendel, the Stubai Alps, the Zillertal Alps, and up to the High Tauern.

A not too difficult path runs from the starting point at the Rauthhütte, but it requires a lot of perseverance and stamina. Expect about 3 hours of walking time from the hut.
The area around the Rauthhütte turns into a wonderland for snowshoe hikers in winter and boasts a 3-kilometer-long natural toboggan run. The eastern flank of the Hohe Munde is also suitable for attractive ski tours in spring.

The quiet center

But even those who equate the magic of the mountains with peace and contemplation find their desired destination away from the well-trodden paths - the almost untouched middle part of the chain offers newcomers a natural experience that draws its strength from rustic originality and brings deep relaxation. This middle part also includes the highest elevation of the Mieming Chain - the Hochplattig (2,768 meters) in the main ridge of the mountain range. While its northern part is dominated by steep rock walls, the southern part is characterized by sloping grassy slopes and rocky scree terrain.

The ascent to the summit runs from Mieming over the Henneberg to the Gachen Blick. From there, it becomes adventurous, as the marked path ends here. Through rocky, scree-prone, boulder-strewn terrain and steep gullies, the path leads up to the summit.

The mountain lake tour

The ascent to the Ehrwalder Sonnenspitze (2,417 meters) at the northwestern end of the mountain range is all the more popular. From the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn, the path leads to the idyllic Seebensee, where cows also like to graze on the shore, and further in narrow switchbacks to the Coburger Hut. If you want, you can also make a short detour to the equally enchanting Drachensee here or perfect your skills in the nearby climbing gardens.

As sweaty as the path has been so far, the challenge is now just beginning. Over scree and mountain gullies, through a gorge and rugged terrain, over exposed climbing passages with sometimes difficult-to-find markings and a wire rope section, the arduous path to the Sonnenspitze. But once you arrive at the top, everything is quickly forgiven, because on the one hand, you have mastered this challenge grandiosely, and on the other hand, the victorious view over the valley compensates in an unbelievable way.
