The highest mountain in South Tyrol, the Ortler, proudly stands at an altitude of 3,905m above the Vinschgau. The tour to the summit is extremely demanding, challenging and only suitable for experienced and physically strong mountaineers.
While the first part of the tour requires skill in mountaineering, the second section requires surefootedness in climbing. The starting point is the Hintergrathütte at 2,661m. From there, follow the path to the Upper Knott. The ascent is varied with easy and difficult climbing passages, some of which require crampons and ice axes. Safety rings and hooks are mostly present along the way. However, it is advisable to equip your own gear accordingly.
