The natural swimming pool Gargazon - halfway between Bolzano and Merano - was opened in May 2010 and offers unclouded bathing fun for the whole family on a total area of 12,000 m²!
In the natural pool of the municipality of Gargazon, chemical additives for water purification are completely dispensed with.
No smell of chlorine, no red eyes, no skin irritations! The "secret" of the clear and pure water lies solely in the plants, which act as a natural filter. A natural pool is its own ecosystem, in which largely the same processes take place as in a natural lake. Here, too, a sensitive ecological balance is responsible for the self-cleaning of the water. Therefore, about half of the total water surface of over 2,200 m² is reserved for a regeneration area, where the cleaning of the bathing water is achieved through the interaction of aquatic plants, plankton, and the circulation of the pond water through plant filters. The remaining water surface of around 1,000 m² offers the bathers pure swimming pleasure and pure bathing fun.
The natural pool Gargazon is a unique experience, especially for children! A naturally designed stream flows into the children's pool, which is wonderfully suitable for carefree splashing with a water depth of maximum 30 cm. The non-swimmer area in the natural pool can be reached by a beautiful pebble beach; here the water is up to 1.20 m deep. In the large 50-meter pool with a water depth of 2 m, swimmers can let off steam to their heart's content. There is also a separate fun pool for really exuberant bathing pleasure. Of course, there is also a playground, a beach volleyball court, table tennis, and a table football facility.
The natural pool Gargazon consistently focuses on sustainability: Even for the hot water preparation, no fossil fuels are needed here, only solar collectors are used. In addition, the pool is wonderfully accessible by public transport or by bike due to its location in the immediate vicinity of the train station and directly on the cycle path on the Adige embankment. The car can therefore be safely dispensed with. All of this contributes to improving the CO2 balance in the sense of a sustainable and environmentally friendly overall concept. That is why the natural pool Gargazon has a cheerful pair of dragonflies as its "mascot," which serves as a guide through the area, because dragonflies only feel really comfortable in the vicinity of ecologically intact waters.
