The golf course at Karerpass has a very distant past. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, representatives of the European nobility swung their clubs here. The course, set in a breathtaking setting, is located in the heart of nature at an altitude of more than 1,500 meters. The high-class visitors found the ideal place to stay for their fashionable vacation in the representative Grand Hotel Karersee (with 170 rooms and 280 beds). In addition to Empress Sissi, famous guests of the hotel included Sigmund Freud, Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie, and Karl May. However, the two world wars ensured that local tourism took a hit. The golf course, built in 1904 and therefore the oldest in South Tyrol, was forgotten. The Grand Hotel also had to give way to its heyday - today it consists of private apartments and holiday apartments, some remnants such as the historic dining room and the indoor pool still recall the heyday at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.

It wasn't until 1990 that the 9-hole course was reopened, and in 2015 the facility underwent another modernization, in which the South Tyrolean golf architect Wilfried Moroder was in charge. Also in 2017, a re-design will ensure even higher course quality. Today, the course, also known as "The Mountain Beast," attracts golfers looking for sporting and technical challenges. The alpine courses consist of some narrow and steep passages that require skill. In total, a player can cover a considerable 400 meters in altitude here. With a length of 2,670 meters and a par of 70, the Golf Club Carezza is one of the more extensive courses in South Tyrol.

Those who want to work on their technique will also find the suitable ground for the path to becoming a professional on the partially covered driving range, the putting green, the pitching green, or in the bunker area. To meet the demands of the course, pronounced skills are required. Therefore, some preparation is necessary before you embark on this course, which is one of the most challenging in South Tyrol. It is no coincidence that one of the most challenging golf tournaments in the region, the Alpin Iron Man, takes place here. A school that offers support on the path is the Golf & Country Training Center Freudenstein in Eppan, west of Bolzano, which not only uses modern training equipment but also relies on the broad expertise of Head-Pro Malcolm J. Harrison.

Ultimately, taming the Mountain Beast will give you a particularly sublime feeling, which is not only due to the altitude. In addition, the spectacular view of the dense coniferous forests, the Latemar, the aforementioned Rosengarten, and the Rotwand is worth every effort and will certainly have a fixed place in your memory. The attractive clubhouse has a restaurant where you will be delighted by the mediterranean cuisine with pasta, risotto, and various delicious antipasti specialties of the region.
