Vacation in San Martino in Passiria

Picturesquely situated, San Martino in Passiria / St. Martin in Passeier is located on the western bank of the Passer River below the Matatzspitze. Just a few kilometers from Merano, the beautiful holiday resort offers the best infrastructure, a rich leisure activities, as well as peace and tranquility for wellness vacationers and those seeking relaxation.

The Passeier Valley is famous as the home of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. In his birth house, the inn "Sandwirt," the "Museum Passeier" is now located, which of course dedicates a large part of its exhibition space to the Tyrolean folk hero.
St. Martin gained cultural and historical significance as the seat of the Passeirer painting school in the 18th and 19th centuries. The most important representatives of this baroque school of fresco painting were father and son Nikolas Auer, Benedikt Auer, and Josef Haller. The Painter's House, the seat of the school, is located just a few minutes above the village. Frescoes of the Passeirer school can be seen in the parish church of St. Martin as well as on numerous houses in the holiday resort.

Numerous first-class accommodations in St. Martin offer you the ideal ambience for your vacation. Whether in a cozy family hotel, a sports or wellness hotel, a modern design hotel, or a romantic hotel: comfortable facilities and spacious wellness areas make your vacation in the Passeier Valley holiday region a very special experience! Professional service and genuine hospitality are a matter of course in the hotel and catering industry in St. Martin.

There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor sports in the mountains around the Passeier Valley: Stubai, Ötztal, and Sarntal Alps and the Texel Group Nature Park are largely untouched but well-developed natural landscapes. Countless hiking and mountain biking routes leave nothing to be desired for your summer vacation in St. Martin. Additional holiday activities include Nordic walking, climbing, tennis, horseback riding, kayaking, rafting, and paragliding. Thanks to the mild climate, golf enthusiasts can enjoy an almost year-round golf season at the harmoniously integrated 18-hole course of the Passeier-Meran Golf Club.

In the winter vacation, skiers and snowboarders will find ideal conditions in the snow-sure ski areas of Pfelders and Jaufen-Ratschings. Cross-country skiers appreciate the romantic and well-groomed trails of varying difficulty levels. In addition, there is a toboggan run, an ice rink, and many beautiful routes for winter and snowshoe hiking, as well as ski touring: plenty of variety for your vacation in St. Martin!

In addition, vacationers in the Passeier Valley can discover precious cultural treasures: traditional customs are lovingly preserved here, as are the historical buildings. On the once mighty Jaufenburg, where a branch of the "Museum Passeier" is housed, murals from the early 16th century are impressive. Also unique are the striking, castle-like "shield farms" that can be explored along the picturesque Shield Farms Circular Path in the Passeier Valley. In the Schneeberg Adventure Mine, formerly the highest mine in Europe, visitors gain fascinating insights into the world of mining. The 2009 opened "Bunker Mooseum" is also very successful, serving as a museum and information center of the Texel Group Nature Park. In the bunker complex from the Second World War, there are exhibitions on the topics of archaeology and contemporary history, as well as an ibex enclosure and a climbing garden in the outdoor area.

Behavior in the High Mountains

High up, surrounded by a breathtaking mountain panorama, different rules apply than down in the valley. The weather turns faster, a planned tour sometimes requires more effort than expected, and a small misstep can sometimes necessitate an early return.
