Vacation in Val Sarentino

The Sarntal (Val Sarentino) is one of the most original and charming holiday regions in South Tyrol. Traditional customs are still part of daily life here, and the beautiful traditional costume is famous. The typical old farmhouses are lovingly maintained and shape the landscape. The art of feather embroidery, long extinct elsewhere, is still a living craft here. The Val Sarentino /  Sarntal has been able to maintain its authenticity so well, perhaps because it was isolated from the "rest of the world" for a long time. The access from the north via Sterzing and the Penser Joch is usually closed for about 4 months in winter, and the state road from Bolzano through the Sarntal Gorge has only been so well developed in the last 50 years that it is passable all year round.

Sarentino / Sarnthein is the main town of the valley and is located at the foot of the beautiful Reinegg Castle. The Rohrerhaus, a restored farmhouse from the 13th century, is a cultural center and meeting place. The churches in and around Val Sarentino / Sarnthein are worth seeing, especially St. Cyprian and St. Nikolaus with rich medieval frescoes inside.

Gentle tourism

In Sarentino / Sarnthein, the focus is on environmentally friendly gentle tourism. Wellness has traditionally played a major role, and the holiday offers from the hotels are diverse. A specialty of the Val Sarentino / Sarntal is the oil obtained from the mountain pine, which has nurturing, healing, invigorating, and energizing effects. The mountain pine oil is used in many beauty and wellness products applied in the local wellness hotels.

During your holiday in Sarentino / Sarnthein, you will find mainly peace and relaxation, but also a wide range of sports activities. In the summer, the fantastic mountain world attracts hikers, mountaineers, and Nordic walkers. We also have one of the most attractive mountain bike areas with numerous tour options, so that the Mountain Bike World Cup regularly makes a stop here. Last but not least, equestrian sports have many friends here, especially the Haflinger, which is appreciated and bred and is considered the mascot of the Val Sarentino / Sarntal.

In winter, the small but fine family ski area Reinswald, which is connected to the Ortler Skiarena, offers fun on the slopes and enjoyable skiing and snowboarding. A 4.5km long natural snow toboggan run is also open at night during the full moon! Cross-country skiers are in a beautiful area with varied trails, and of course, you can also enjoy extensive winter hiking and, very much in trend, snowshoeing. Sarentino / Sarnthein has long been a popular holiday destination for ski tourers, as there are countless tours of all difficulty levels here.

For your holiday, you can choose from a wide range of excellent hotels in the Val Sarentino / Sarntal. Whether you opt for a friendly family hotel, a fine gourmet hotel, or a modern wellness hotel, you will not regret it. Holidays in Sarentino / Sarnthein are always enjoyable!
