Hiking

The Salten offers extensive meadows, coniferous forests, and partly Mediterranean vegetation. In spring, the lush crocus blooms are particularly attractive, while the forests provide pleasant shade in the summer heat, and the larch forests turn bright yellow in the autumn. Winters in Salten are very snowy and offer excellent conditions for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing and winter hiking.

On numerous hiking trails, easy to long hikes with no extreme differences in altitude can be undertaken. Therefore, San Genesio / Jenesien is also perfect for seniors and families with children for a hiking holiday. A special destination is the "Stoanerne Mandln", a legendary collection of stone piles that can be further built or rebuilt to your heart's content. Also worth visiting is a three-hour tour on the Sagenwanderweg, a four-hour hike to Langfenn, a two-hour family hike on the Martinsweg, or a three-and-a-half-hour tour to the Möltner Joch.

Other Activities

The Salten invites visitors to experience nature while mountain biking, carriage rides, or horseback riding. There are three riding stables in San Genesio / Jenesien that will make every horse lover's heart beat faster.

In the summer, water lovers are drawn to the swimming pool in Pichl, where refreshing cooling off and fun bathing await. Near the swimming pool, there are tennis courts and bowling alleys.

The provincial capital of Bozen is easily accessible by cable car. Here, there is an opportunity to visit the city on an excursion or for a leisurely stroll.

Sights

The gothic church of San Genesio / Jenesien is dedicated to Saint Genesius, Saint Sylvester, and Saint Margaret. It was first mentioned in a document in 1186. The current appearance dates back to the 15th, 16th, and 19th centuries. Guided tours with tower climbs take place regularly.

When visiting the ruins of Helfenberg or the Greifenstein castle ruins, colloquially known as the "Sauschloss", one can immerse themselves in the legendary world of the Middle Ages.

The Tschaufen is the former hunting lodge of the Maultasch family from the Middle Ages. In the immediate vicinity, there is a hill grave from the time of the Migration Period, estimated to be 1500 to 1700 years old.

The town hall of San Genesio / Jenesien is housed in the former rectory. The building is characterized by battlements, arrow slits, and by the stone grimaces on the tower.

The historical farm Kampidell is located near the church of Saint Magdalena. There is also still a summer residence for Benedictine monks. In the immediate vicinity, there are also the former manor house, the prelate's house, and the Stegerhof with its agricultural buildings.

A visit to the 300-year-old maple tree near the Tomanegger inn between Jensien and Flaas is also worthwhile. The huge and expansive tree looks particularly impressive in the autumn when its leaves change color.
The earth pyramids are also a worthwhile excursion destination. These are formations made of glacial moraine clay.

The lively traditions and culinary specialties from local products as well as the wonderful South Tyrolean wines complete a holiday in San Genesio / Jenesien.
