Laives

Leifers (ital. Laives), the youngest of the eight South Tyrolean cities (since 1985), was originally known as a port. This sounds unbelievable, but in the Middle Ages the Adige was still a much-traveled river. With the construction of the railway, shipping disappeared, and today Laives / Leifers is primarily a modern small town with a southern flair and lots of greenery. Since 2004, the city has also had a new, distinctive landmark with the New Parish Church. The old, medieval church was integrated into the new building as a sanctuary.
