Just under 30 kilometers south of Bolzano lies Cortaccia / Kurtatsch on the Wine Road on the right bank of the Adige River in the South Tyrolean Unterland. Orchards are scattered over the extensive basin in the surrounding area, while vineyards surround the village on the slopes. The municipality of Cortaccia / Kurtatsch includes a total of six villages, which primarily rely on fruit and wine cultivation. The tradition of winemaking in the region dates back to Roman times.

Wine
The inner Alpine continental climate brings more than 2000 hours of sunshine per year to the slopes around Cortaccia / Kurtatsch. The cool evening temperatures create ideal conditions for the production of mineral and elegant white wines, as well as rich and fruity red wines. The calcareous, water-permeable, and partly clayey soils give the wines of Cortaccia / Kurtatsch their distinctive character.
Regional white wines include Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Müller Thurgau, and Sauvignon, while the most popular local red wine varieties include Schiava, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet. Visitors to Cortaccia / Kurtatsch can enjoy delightful walks through the vineyards and special tasting experiences at wine tastings.
A special event in Kurtatsch's event calendar is the Night of the Cellars in June, where the winemakers allow guests to take a look behind the scenes. By the way, the Turmhof Castle Cellar in Entiklar also includes the highest vineyard in South Tyrol, located at an altitude of 1050 meters.
Hiking
The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for hikers to explore nature and collect unforgettable landscape impressions. On a themed hike on the wine educational trail, you can take a leisurely family hike under the motto "from the vine to the bottle." This should take about an hour and 45 minutes. A hike to Treser Horn takes four hours, and hikers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. On the fitness trail, guests can take a three-hour circular hike to Tramin and back to Cortaccia / Kurtatsch.
Bicycle and mountain biking
Many guests appreciate the South Tyrolean Wine Road as a destination for cycling vacations. From Cortaccia / Kurtatsch, you can cycle through Margreid and Kurtinig to Salurn. From there, the route leads through Neumarkt, Auer, and Tramin back to Cortaccia / Kurtatsch. The route is about 40 kilometers long, and cyclists should plan for about three hours of travel time. Along the way, you can visit the towns on the Wine Road or the Haderburg near Salurn.
In the surrounding mountain world, there are fantastic routes and trails for mountain bikers. The Fennberg border tour can be completed in three and a half hours. Along the way, you should visit the St. Leonard's Church and plan a stop at the picturesque Fennberger Lake, which invites you to take a refreshing dip on hot days. The route then leads to Trentino and back toCortaccia / Kurtatsch via Margreid.
Experienced and fit mountain bikers can reach Tresner Horn in six to six and a half hours. From the summit at 1,812 meters above sea level, the magnificent view of the Ortler and the Dolomites makes the effort worthwhile.

Sports enthusiasts can also let off steam in the climbing gardens of Kurtatsch-Moderplotta and Graun-Hintersegg, and Lake Caldaro is perfect for swimming and water sports excursions. At the Museum of Human History, visitors can look back on the history of human life through archaeological and ethnographic objects. The focus is on the development from Stone Age hunter-gatherer cultures to modern consumer society.
