The tranquil little village

Anterivo / Altrei

Those who like vacationing in seclusion will find Anterivo / Altrei to be the perfect place: The 390-inhabitant village is located at about 1200 meters away from mass tourism. The village is situated in a picturesque environment, on the border with Trentino and nestled in the Trudner Horn Nature Park. This park is home to numerous plant species, and it is said to be the most species-rich park in South Tyrol. A very special plant is the Lupinus pilus, which is drunk as a coffee substitute mixed with barley or wheat. During a vacation in Anterivo / Altrei, one should definitely try this special drink.

The history of the village

The municipality has a long history. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1321. The history of Altrei's origin is interesting: Gotschalk von Bozen received permission from the prince of Tyrol to establish ten farms in the County of Fleims. This farm settlement eventually developed into the village. This history is reflected in the municipal coat of arms, which shows ten fields in black and silver.

Anterivo / Altrei has more to offer for its tourists than just relaxation and tranquility, as the beautiful landscape invites to hiking or mountain biking. A stop at the Kneipp facility in the Sandegg recreational area is recommended. In winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities here. For those more inclined towards downhill skiing, the nearby "Dolomiti Superski" ski area offers plenty of slopes to race down.

For culture enthusiasts, a visit to the parish church of St. Catherine is recommended. In the village center, there is the building of the "Alte Mühle," which houses organic products from the Trudner Horn Nature Park. Here, tiny flower pollen can be admired in a thousandfold magnification, among other things.

Excursions and accommodation

Day trips to the nearby villages of Aldein or Auer are recommended - the provincial capital of Bozen is only about 50 kilometers away and is definitely worth a visit. In such a small mountain village, accommodation options are naturally limited, but comfortable places to stay can be found directly in Anterivo / Altrei, such as in an inn, hotel, or guesthouse.
