Modern architecture meets centuries-old tradition - South Tyrol

South Tyrol is characterized by impressive mountains, ancient castles and forts, as well as quaint farmhouses. Is there even room for modern architecture? We say yes and present you with some very successful examples below.

Kloster Neustift

For example, the Wellness platform Heaven & Hell at the Alpin Panorama Hotel Hubertus presents itself heavenly beautiful. It is an architectural masterpiece, as the platform floats on a steel structure beyond the hotel. The "heaven" can be entered through the relaxation room, and from there, guests can enjoy the breathtaking panorama. A staircase leads to the so-called "hell", where a cold chamber, a naked whirlpool, and two saunas await those seeking relaxation.

Modern Visitor Tour

The Neustift Monastery was founded in 1127, and even today, monks of the Augustinian order still live here. In order to provide visitors with better access, parts of the complex were converted, and the very intricate building was expanded with a new visitor tour. A copper-clad bridge now protrudes over the abbey wall, connecting the cloister with the exhibition rooms of the museum. In addition, an original storage room was gutted and converted into an entrance hall. From the hall, visitors can now enter the interior of the complex to the cloister, the library, or the fresco hall and the stair tower. Finally, from the bridge, one can once again enjoy the fantastic view of the impressive surroundings.

Spectacular Work of Art

The Icaro Hotel on the Seiser Alm was also completely redesigned, with the original form of the mountain hut being retained and old being combined with new. Wood plays the main role, with the house being enveloped in larch wood and elm, oak, and spruce being used for the interior design. In addition, guests at the hotel are inspired by a variety of artworks found in the most amazing places. For example, they are embedded in the walls of the swimming pool or hang on the walls of the garage. Thus, at the Icaro Hotel, guests encounter not only nature but also architecture, art, and of course, enjoyment.

Unforgettable View

The probably most easily accessible peak in the world is the Iceman Ötzi Peak viewing platform, which towers over the Schnalstal Glacier. From the mountain station, it can be climbed in just ten minutes via steel stairs and rocks, and then one can enjoy the dreamy view of the surrounding mountain world. For example, from the Iceman Ötzi Peak, you can spot the snowfield of the Similaun, where the famous Ötzi, the world's most famous glacier mummy, was discovered. But not only the panorama is impressive, but also the architecture, as the platform seems to float like a sculpture on the mountain.
