Museum in the Arlberg-Kandahar House in St. Anton

St. Anton am Arlberg is generally considered the cradle of Alpine skiing. Here, the ski pioneers, foremost among them the legendary Hannes Schneider, developed the technique of Alpine skiing, which is still essentially valid today, from the Scandinavian Telemark style at the beginning of the 20th century.

This "Arlberg School" quickly became famous and made St. Anton one of the first and most significant ski resorts in the world. The pioneering achievements of the first generation were continued with skiing greats like Rudi Matt (World Champion in Slalom 1936), Karl Schranz (three-time World Champion and overall World Cup winner between 1962 and 1970) and Mario Matt (World Champion 2001 and 2007, as well as in the hosting of the Alpine World Ski Championships 2001.

Of course, St. Anton is proud of this long and great tradition and has therefore dedicated its own museum to the history of the place. In a beautifully located holiday home, which the German Bernhard Trier had built in 1912 on a property near today's Galzigbahn in the middle of an extensive park, this museum is now housed. In the 1970s, the municipality was able to acquire this property including the house and subsequently housed the ski and local history museum here. The garden was converted into a public leisure park. In recent years, the museum has been fundamentally renovated and brought up to date. It now presents itself to the visitor in a contemporary, modern guise.

Photos and films from then and now, historical ski equipment, winner skis of sports legends, and old maps are shown. You can also learn interesting facts about the ski resort as it has changed over time, as well as about customs and traditions and agriculture in alpine terrain. Of course, a separate section is also dedicated to the tunnel construction at the Arlberg. Everything is presented with the most modern museum technology and is largely interactive.

In the Arlberg-Kandahar House, there is also a restaurant that serves guests all kinds of culinary delights. Here you can strengthen yourself after visiting the museum or during a hike.

Krippenmuseum in Fulpmes in the Stubai Valley

In the middle of Fulpmes in the beautiful Stubai Valley is the ‘Tiroler Krippenmuseum Fulpmes Stubai‘. It is housed in the 500-year-old ‘Platzwirt-Haus‘, and especially during the Advent and Christmas season, it is a great attraction for the whole family.
