Adventure Ice Diving

Ice diving is not just a special sporting challenge, but also a "dive" into another dimension, into a world of silence and complete seclusion amidst the wintry mountains of Tyrol.

Tyrol, with its many mountain lakes, is a true paradise for divers. Diving in mountain lakes in Tyrol is possible up to an altitude of 2,600 m above sea level, often in crystal-clear water with visibility up to 50 meters! A large number of these Tyrolean lakes are also still completely unexplored. However, it should be noted that diving under the special, sometimes dangerous conditions of the mountain lakes should only be undertaken with experienced and local diving partners.

Even in summer, diving in the mountain lakes is a unique and incomparable experience. Ice diving in winter is now another dimension. The silence becomes almost tangible under the ice cover, it is like diving into an alien galaxy, into a mysterious habitat that will remain hidden to most people. The clear mountain water with its many shades of blue and green leaves indelible impressions, as do the gigantic ice formations or the mercury-like spreading exhaled air bubbles and the light plays under the ice cover. What awaits one in this fantastic underwater cosmos is hard to describe in words, but anyone who has once experienced the wonder of ice diving will hardly be able to let go.

To enter this wonderful world surrounded by the winter mountain panorama, an entry hole is first cut into the ice cover with a saw. The divers enter in at least pairs and secure themselves with a rope so that no one gets lost in the icy floods. After the dive, the entry hole is closed again with the ice plate.

Diving camps with appropriate professional training are offered by Tyrolean diving schools. A prerequisite for ice diving is a certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or an equivalent diving license and a medical health certificate. The complete diving equipment suitable for cold water diving can also be rented on site.
